Well.. what can we say.. what an amazing find. Reading the reviews prior to our arrival we had high hopes that we thought may be too high. However this place did not disappoint. Set in a picturesque location. Forest and mountain views all around next to a beautiful river, I had organised with Mike the owner to have a few gifts left in the room for our arrival, he went above and beyond any expectations. Louise the manager was out of this world. She was welcoming. It was like a home from home. She immediately put us at ease, especially after our long walk up Snowdon. We settled in for the evening in a beautiful warm room. Food was ordered and wow... the food was so tasty and home cooked. The prices are very good (underpriced for the quality you receive in our opinion). Our dog was the centre of attention. The boys who delivered the food to our room were very attentive and pleasant. Good humour and polite. Breakfast did all the wonders it needed to for our 2nd day hike (recommended by Louise). Once we got back we were welcomed again so well, it was like we were family. Nothing is too much for this place. I truly believe anything you want they will do to make happen. I have attached pictures below.. definitely our go to place in Wales now. Don't hesitate booking this place.. book it before it's too late. What a gem of a find. So to Mike, Louise and the Rest of the team... thank you so much for our experience. We are very happy and have so many lovely memories to look back on with you all being part of them.

Had a Sunday lunch here for the first night of our holidays. Food was OK not a massive portion and was good quality, had a long wait at the bar when initially ordering the food as staff doing drinks and snacks orders for other customers, no acknowledgement that myself and another couple behind me where there at all. I had potato bravas which came out as full baby potatoes with the sauce, which is unusual as normally they are small squares of potato but it was nice and potatoes well cooked, with had the cheese croquet which she enjoyed and came with a nice refreshing salad. We both had the beef Sunday dinner again nicely cooked and presented. It's a dog friendly pub and you can get dog meals & drinks for them too, the menu wasn't at the bar at time of ordering and with others behind me waiting i said it didn't matter so not sure what was available. Meal came quickly but nobody asked if it was OK which you normally get wherever you eat, found quite expensive for what we got and didn't return for the rest of the weeks holiday. Noticed a couple of motorhomes in the carpark, and when passing saw a sign saying free overnight parking if booked in for a meal.

I have been to the Tal y cafn many times as my friend has a caravan up the road at Maenan Abbey. We called for a drink on Monday 22nd May and sat on the lovely terrace in the sun. The lovely Janet was working and serving food on the terrace. So on the 24th May as the sun was still shining we decided to finish our day out in Llandudno with a meal outside on the terrace of the Tal y cafn. We got to the pub and we were greeted by a sign saying no food was being served on the terrace. WHY?? It a beautiful summers day, perfect for eating in the sun. Inside in the restaurant it was hot and stuffy. Had we known there was no service available outside we would have eaten at the Cottage Loaf in Llandudno. Outside in the sunshine!!!!!. As I had been driving all day we reluctantly decided to eat in the restaurant. There were dishes on the menu were not available. There was no mussels, salmon, cheese and onion pie. This is the second time you've had no mussels, and you're by the sea. Come on Tal y cafn get your act together. You're not consistent with your service. Your staff are wonderful and welcoming, but you are losing custom by not being consistent.

Came here on good Friday, booking 3 adults one child, restaurant probably less than half full. What follows is hard to write as some members of staff were genuinely lovely and helpful, but overall it was a terrible experience for a place that has pretensions, but sorely let's itself down. We were sat down and a helpful waitress took our drinks order. I ordered a soda with lime, drink came without lime. It wasn't to be a one off. When we ordered 2 starters, we were kindly offered the childs main to arrive same time so he didn't have to wait. We waited and waited and eventually the starters arrived, without the childs main. When we chased it up it finally arrived - with the wrong side. After an hour we called a waitress over to enquire about our mains as we'd been in over an hour by this point. At this, the waitress looked annoyed at us, then told us she'd check what time we'd ordered. Apparently she didn't believe us? To make it worse when she checked the computer till nearby, she didn't come over and apologise. This wasn't even a busy restaurant and there appeared to be plenty staff. Mains arrived and, of course, the order was wrong. Now at this point things take a turn for the worse. She was told she'd ordered the last portion of beef, and when it arrived the gravy wasn't on the side. It was taken away and brought back apparently fresh a while later - so where did they get the beef? Was it rinsed and pit back on the plate? This is actually worrying as it indicates a worrying possibly vindictive approach to food hygiene. The meal was brought back apparently freshly cooked. The Yorkshire pudding had a layer of what I hope was cooking oil sloshing around in its base. I tried it and gagged. It was that awful. I'd love the cctv of me taking that mouthful. I kept it to myself, I didn't want to upset my parents any more. For a place that feels confident enough to charge over ÂŁ50 for a steak, it was just appalling. These complaints were raised and some members of staff were brilliant, they were apologetic, a round of drinks and deserts were supplied, but all in, what can I say. We were in there nearly 3 hours. Orders were wrong, food was varying in quality, and whilst some staff members are professional and friendly, others need reminding that when someone says we've been waiting over an hour, it's traditional to say something along the lines of, "I'm really sorry let me look into this for you" not scowl and mutter about checking the exact time we ordered. It took others to apologise on her behalf. Basic stuff. Food quality and attention to detail was inconsistent at best... Really sorry to be writing this as it's very rare I one star a venue. I have tried to balance this with praise where praise due. There are some genuinely lovely members of staff who were apologetic and helpful. After a 3 hour lunch, we wearily made...

Disappointed with our visit today. For something that could have been resolved and left both parties happy fairly quickly, resulted in the new manager bickering with a customer over food that appeared to be undercooked. Customer had rightly requested for one meal to be taken off the bill as it appeared undercooked and had more than half of the food still left on the plate, one member of staff agreed that he’d take it off the bill, but then the manager came over and argued the case, stating the customer had eaten all of the food and only left the undercooked portion. Manager said she’d take 50% off the meal but customer wasn’t happy and stated that he’d pay for everything else, but wasn’t happy to pay for a meal he didn’t eat and was undercooked. Customer asked to speak to the owners but manager stated they were on holiday. Manager then stated “it’s fine I’ll just take the money out of my own pocket for that meal” when the customer asked “you’ve paid for that meal with your own money?” She replied with “yes” - very unprofessional for a manager to try and guilt trip a customer for a meal he had sent back as it was undercooked. We won’t be returning unfortunately. Location is lovely and other staff members were very welcoming and pleasant. Our starters were very nice also!

Just replying here to your reply. It was my partner who had the turkey. The conversation wasn’t with the manager myself, so I stated “the customer”. You say it’s impossible for the turkey to have been undercooked, but if the consistency wasn’t very nice for a customer and they were put off their meal, then that should be that. We go and eat out on many occasions and we definitely do not “try and get a free meal”. The customer wasn’t happy with their food, end of. The response from your manager wasn’t professional at all either! We’ve eaten here in the past and were happy with our food which was why we came again. Definitely won’t be returning purely on the reason that your manager was unprofessional and was also laughing as well when my partner complained and asked for the meal to be taken off the bill as he hadn’t finished it. I’m happy for you that you had a table of 36 who enjoyed their food, unfortunately our experience wasn’t so pleasant. We didn’t expect to come for food to then end up in an argument with your...

First trip here, it's nice inside to be fair but because of it's location it is trying to be something it's not, which in essence is a pub stroke restaurant... Anyway I took my wife for the 3 meat Sunday Roast, Upon arrival not the best of greetings (but we weren't booked in so I accept this), Shown to our table and ordered drinks and our food, Our food came but I had to go and ask for the drinks halfway through eating our meal and the chap that took our order offered no apology merely "I don't know what happened to your drinks" Anyway the Sunday 3 meat roast was sadly very poor for the cost, the meats were not dissimilar to supermarket sliced meats, The beef (supposedly cooked overnight) was exceptionally tough and chewy despite being sliced almost as thin as the turkey and ham (which contained gristle), the 2 roast potatoes were tough and tasteless, the mashed potatoes must have been dished onto the plate with a teaspoon and hiding underneath everything else with the "sliced" meats slapped on top and barely visible, the cauliflower was inedible (tough) and if you don't like gravy I suggest you let them know because the food is doing the backstroke in it (I know it says on the menu "lashings of gravy") but it would be better served for the customer to add as little or as much as they wish, The staff are very young and inexperienced in customer service (also management) at no point in our meal did we get a check back at all to see if everything was ok, likewise this was repeated after requesting the bill (delivered rolled up in a little glass bottle neck) upon going to the till were we asked when paying was everything ok with our meal etc, Much MORE attention needs to be paid to meet/greet/check backs and politeness within this venue, All in all ÂŁ50 for 2 Sunday lunches a tea and a glass of Coke ??, In the event of first impressions count...they clearly don't seem to know what effect this has for return visits or recommendations, All in all possibly the worst Sunday lunch we have had, So for my wife and myself we probably will not return, and sadly therefore i cannot wholeheartedly recommend the venue...more a case of avoid to save yourself money and disappointment. (But clearly the...
