I was so looking forward to my birthday meal here after seeing so many great reviews and photos of the delicious food on offer, however our experience can only be described as woeful from start to finish. Our table was booked for 6pm and when we arrived there were only a few other diners in the restaurant. We waited half an hour for someone to come and take our drinks and food orders and took the opportunity to ask about the gluten free options as my daughter is coeliac. The server said he would double check with the chef, brought our drinks and then appeared to vanish off the face of the earth. After waiting for 15 minutes I approached another server who apologised and went to the kitchen to find out what was happening with our order. An hour after being seated the starters finally arrived but the gf liver parfait came with no bread which is a bit weird having nothing to spread it on so I'm not sure why it is offered as a gf option? After another half hour wait the mains finally arrived, 3 roast piccalilli chicken with dauphinois potatoes, the gf option was substituted with boiled potatoes, no idea why as dauphinois does not contain gluten anyway? The plain buttermilk chicken arrived smothered in smashed avocado with all of the added extras so was sent back which was a problem as my diabetic son had already injected his insulin and then had to wait for a replacement, my rare steak with handcut chips arrived with skin on fries and was basically raw to the point that it was stone cold in the middle and therefore inedible. The only saving grace was that my daughter had a mystery envelope from a visit in December which upon opening gave us a 75% discount off the food which to be honest still seemed overpriced as after more than 2 hours I left the restaurant having only eaten a small portion of chips that I hadn't even ordered. The most bewildering thing about the whole experience is that the two tables either side of us who arrived half an hour and an hour after we did were served and had eaten their meals and left before we did. We were offered a round of drinks by way of an apology but it was too little and too late. Very disappointing experience and certainly...
Read moreWell, I've passed here many times and heard some great things so we opted to try the already highly spoken of 'carvery' on Sunday and what a great choice that turned out to be 😊 We received the warmest of greetings from a lovely young lady who seated us in the large and extremely tastefully decored dining room. It's a large space but thanks to the stylish decor, it still felt really warm and inviting. The choice of 3 meats(not sure if these are alternated) were absolutely delicious...the Turkey probably my winner on the day. The beef was pink and delicious and the gammon equally so. A beautiful choice of fresh and well seasoned accompanying vegetables, stuffing balls, roasties were all equally delicious 😊 Everything was a perfect temperature, hands down definitely the BEST carvery I've had in years! No room for desert for me but an Eton Mess and Brownie were a firm favourite with other members of the family, beautifully presented and delicious! The team here were all fabulous, everyone smiling and warm and super helpful. Our waitresses were super efficient yet also so friendly, can't not give an extra shout out to the Chefs... especially the young Irish chap, what a gem😊 Thank you for a really lovely and excellent value meal, looking forward to a return visit that's for sure 😊 (Please note: Menu prices were current as at...
Read moreIf you are vegan and don’t like beyond burger, avoid. There are no other options. Zero.
Service was very very slow. My family and I spent ages waiting for food items. All I had were some potatoe long things that had to be oven cooked as the oil they use was shared with animal products.
They were awful potatoes. Unpalletable. Hardly cooked, covered in oil and just awful. However being English I was polite and said everything was good. 🙄
—- I thought I would add a bit to this review as I don’t like leaving bad reviews.
I understand that for many it is hard to understand how to cater for vegans and even vegetarians. But for me, both many years ago when I was a mere vegetarian and now, fries would have been a perfect fall back - and I am sure speak for many others. One of those foods that you can’t normally go wrong with. But in this situation not even that was an option - it made me wonder what the beyond burger was served with?!?
Therefore my advice is…get a seperate pan where you can cook potato items properly so they are delicious and remain a bit of a treat for those who rarely go out and actually were quite excited about eating a plate of fried potatoes (in the absence of any...
