Appalling customer service!!!

My partner and I arrived at The Whistle around 7:15pm within 10mins of arriving my partner ordered food and drinks for us. Although he was queuing with other diners a customer was served before them who had come in from outside. We ordered a lamb shank, broccoli bake, 2 sides along with 2 pints of coke. We waited over an hour for our meal. Two couples who ordered after us had their meals and finished them before we had ours. Another table of 4 who coincidently had the same meals and sides as us, who had arrived 20mins after us, where served first! I went to the bar and asked what was going on with our meals as it had been over an hour and the barman went to the kitchen came out and said our food was on its way.

The table of 4 was finished being served and then came out our meals. I asked our waitress (a blonde lady) what had taken so long for our meals. She explained it was busy which i appreciate being a saturday evening. However, no one came to tell us there were delays or an eta on when our food would be served at any point during our visit. Other customers had been served and eaten before us and left. A table of 4 with half an identical order to our own was served before us so im sorry but "we've been busy" wasnt really acceptable. She apologised and said that she would speak to the management, that was the last we saw of her. She busied herself with clearing tables and serving other diners with their food, she did not once come over and aak us how our meals were.

We finished our food and drinks and waited over 20 mins for the waitress to return with news from the management. Another waitress (a brunette lady) came over and collected half of our empty plates. She did ask how our meals were and my partner said "The service is disgusting tonight" with that she turned, laughed and walked away. Me and my other half just looked at each other with astonishment! We finally gave up waiting for our second lot of plates and glasses to be collected and for our long lost waitress to return with word from the management. As we left there was nothing from any of the staff to thank us for our visit or a goodbye. This is completely and utterly unacceptable and I feel we were very poorly treated. I had been going to The Whistle since I was very young with my grandparents and have many fond memories there. I wanted to share and create new memories with my partner but now I'm left angry, upset and dissapointed.

Not sure how you've managed to maintain your business with service like this, its certainly nowhere near the level of customer service and welcoming atmosphere of the previous owners. On our previous visit we had a lovely meal, the service was ok, we weren't table checked that time either and we were told how long we were expected to wait for our food which was fine. I had told family and friends of how nice it was despite the wait but I will be retracting those statements and advising them against visiting. We will in no uncertain terms be returning to your establishment which I am very disappointed about due to my own personal history with the place. A response would be appreciated, however I fear "management" will not give this review the time of day. If they cant amend a complaint in house then what hope do I have with an online Facebook review? Hopefully this will help paint a picture for future customers looking to try your establishment and give them fair warning of what could be their dining experience with you. Regards A very disappointed,...

Have probly gone to the whistle for best part of 3 years but we went recently in a party of 16 and have never felt so disappointed, food was awful, service was off putting, and drinks done wrong, made a complaint but obviously being the decent party didn't do it in front of other customers but now I wish I did, Told them the problems on nearly all the meals, told them about the attitude we received from the manager and also told them about the drinks, they replied , we sorry about the manager attitude but he had be suffering with a bad back, so he must of thought take it out on us, as for the meals well avoid the kebab, Β£17 for 3 small pieces of meat and I mean small and a small hard pita bread. I'm not going to mention the other faults on meals and drinks as I would be here all day. Woman who I chatted to on fave book messenger did not and just blocked me. So please don't build your hopes up as the whistle does flop in its EXPECTATIONS, This was the first time this as happened in all the visits tho and the others times fare play its been faultless but this time was enough to put us off for good. They did offer 4 free meals, but somehow I think I would of struggled to share them...

We stayed over the weekend at thier campsite. The hardstanding areas where a little difficult for our large motorhome due to the grass areas being very very soft due to excessive rain previously, so we pitched up in the carpark. The site is really ok and has a play area for kids, there is also a shower and toilet block which is still under construction but water and chemical toilet are available plus use of the toilets in the pub. The pub itself is very friendly and the food is good and competitively priced, and is surprisingly busy given its rural location which says much for its popularity. As a bonus the Blaenavon heritage railway line terminates beside the Whistle inn at a small platform and station building, where you can catch the steam train To various stations down the line including the Heritage Big Pit coal mine. You can hop on and off the train at any station. All in all a weekend or even a week at the Whistle stop inn and campsite is highly...

I stayed here at the campsite attached to the pub. The site was low priced due to having to use pub toilets. Also no hook ups available yet. But theses are easy to access. Nice and quiet the only noise is from a poorly maintained cattle grid on the main road when vehicles go over it. But you get used to it soon enough. It’s nice and close to some beautiful walks if you stay here. Soon there will be a new toilet block which will affect the camping price but it will be worth it. The pub is dog friendly. Toilets are very clean. Very friendly staff and nice atmosphere in the pub. I ordered stake and it was beautiful, the food was hot and tasty. I can’t fault the food at all. It was a good amount for the price. I would recommend staying here in a caravan or tent even though no hook ups available yet. I intend to come here again. Nice place to camp Nice place to eat. Has a 5 star food rating. Kids play area Can catch the steam train from the site when it runs

Fantastic. We booked a stop over, we arrived after 8pm and they had stopped taking food orders, it did look good coming out of the kitchen. I got stuck into the local ale, Hobby Horse, which I very much enjoyed a few pints of. The staff and others staying at the park up where friendly and we chatted the evening away. The park up is barriered and you have use of the pub toilets overnight. In the morning we walked to the Big Pit Colliery Museum which is amazing, an incredible look at an industry that powered the country. All those working there were so knowledgeable and happy to talk to us, really pleased we visited. From there we walked back via the hill top path, stunning scenery. Fyi, the pub doesn't serve the small plates on the weekend so we tucked into the chunky chips and dirty fries, which were amazing, before getting back on the road. All in all, great pub, great stop over, stunning scenery.

We stayed for 2 nights in our motorhome and rang ahead to check availability. Booking in was a breeze and we were allowed to park where we liked. The field slopes and it's difficult to get dead level but it's not a problem. The location is stunning and handy for lots of walks along tarmac paths around the lakes, to the steam railway ticket office (which has a station right next to the campsite), to Big Pit, a must visit place (and free) in my opinion, to Blaenavon town although it takes just under an hour but hilly in places and also onto the edge of The Brecons. We used the pub on the Saturday night and the service was excellent and the food and drinks are well priced and value for money. I highly recommend staying here but although it was April it was pretty busy so I'd advise to ring ahead first. You won't be disappointed.
