Initial welcome wasn't great, booked a table but its only a small area so couldn't stand and wait to seated without being in the way, so went to the bar, the woman behind the bar asked what she can do for me. I mentioned we booked a table to be told, "you'll have to wait I'm serving someone"
We sat ourself down in the end, and was served by a young lad who took our order, was only given a the Sunday menu, we placed our order, but our youngest was given the wrong food. A adult size lasagna rather then the children's spag bol. She didn't want to make a fuss so started eating it but then said "dad this isn't what we ordered" when i told the lad serving he said "this is what you asked for" and unless we was willing to pay for the kids spaghetti bol there's nothing he could do. So we said we'd pay for the spag bol, to then be told 5 minutes later that they haven't got any spag bol. We also had to go to the bar for cutlery, which is something so minor but felt like we was being a burden.
We noticed the tables around us was ordering food from different menu, abit gutting as we wasn't too fussed on the Sunday menu, and wasn't made aware there qas another option, an oversight on our behalf tbh but wouldve been nice to have been told.
The Dauphinoise potato's was cold, and the rest of our lamb roasts wasn't particularly warm, the gravy was watery and definitely not mint as says in the menu. But given the reaction we had when we mentioned the kids meal, and the original greeting, we didn't feel comfortable complaining any more. We ate our food, and ask for the bill, which annoyingly also had the spag bol on.
This is the 3rd time I've eaten here. And the prior two have been banging. Its a shame today was so poor.
We had family over and couldn't wait to show them the area. Ended up feeling guilty I...
Read moreI used to eat here on a Sunday regularly, all be it a while back. The Sunday roast options were always excellent with a proper home-made taste, Now its a pale imitation, a pseudo roast dinner of misplaced style over substance. A single leaf of Cavolo Nero, on top of that a 3x1 inch portion of Dauphinoise potato and a large quartered segment of very woody parsnip with an overcooked small single carrot laid languidly on top. A couple of slices of beef, somewhat well done casually leaning against the veg tower with it's ubiquitous Yorkshire pudding, all served on a cold plate, which did nothing to retain any meagre heat still present in the actual food. The accompanying soulless side veg, watery flavourless swede and carrot mash, an attempt at creamed cabbage with bacon, pointlessly served to 2 vegetarians who were sat at the table , and a small portion of steamed leaks, which were fine and some green beans, very much not fine, shrivelled for being held too long before serving. The service was good enough, though it did end once the plate was placed on the table. Though it was all let down by the dismally average pretentious...
Read moreWe stayed here camping this weekend, eating in the pub on Sunday lunchtime.
The campsite was fantastic, great view and excellent atmosphere. Importantly there were clean well serviced toilets and warm clean showers. It also felt very safe to have my 2 children running around freely.
The nut roast Sunday lunch was exceptional. There were plenty of nuts and excellent flavour. The vegetables were plentiful, warm and fresh. I have coeliac disease and there were so many options for me to eat and the staff were completely aware of all issues with gluten free food. I was so full I couldn't manage a full pudding but stole a spoon of the cheesecake, which was also gluten free and wished I had space for more. The pub was busy but the table staff and bar staff were attentive, polite and knowledgeable. The atmosphere was family friendly and the managers were front of house and visible.
I would 100% recommend both the pub and the camping and will definitely be returning we have had a...
