Only given the one star because it is the lowest option. We visited as a family of four adults and a baby due to to a 10/10 review (must have been off a staff member)!! We found the staff to be extremely rude. Asked if food was still on (2pm), it was as though we were causing them a great inconvenience and were told ‘only food in a basket’. This didn’t deter us. We entered the pub, found a table and asked if there was a high chair available. Again, we were made to feel like an inconvenience and told ‘there could be one in the lounge’ but no attempt to go to the lounge and find one or direct us to the lounge was made. We then went to the toilet to change the babies nappy and there were no baby changing facilities. Looking around the pub we saw the basket meals were served in plastic baskets. There was no friendly welcome, no smiling faces, no atmosphere and no money from us went over the counter. We made...

If relaxed and unpretentious is what you are looking for wether you are visiting Erwood/ surrounding areas or simply just passing through the area, then The Wheelwright Arms is the place to go. The pub offers a calm and friendly local environment that is kept well. The drink choice is superb and the food offers a traditional pub style menu and is outstanding (Also a great proportion for the price). Having also walked past the kitchen window when walking around the area whilst trying to find my way around Erwood, I noted how immaculate the kitchen was kept, which was very reassuring. Staff are friendly, welcoming and enjoy a laugh and a joke with you along the way. Would 100% recommend.

P.S. The Fish and Chips are...

Not for the feint hearted, unless you like a really LOUD Pub serving food reminiscent of Old Style Army Food. We had Duck a la Orange, which was served with a Mountain and I mean a Mountain of lumpy Mashed Potatoes, cold heaped carrots and a small amount of peas, but the icing on the cake was the Sauce, which was a juiced orange poured over the Overcooked Duck, yes pure orange juice !!! Was the cook drunk or what, who would do that ? I Left a reasonable Tip as the Waitress was Excellent, really efficient ! but I would not return for a Free Bar Meal, let alone a Restaurant Meal. I left 3 stars as the Sponge Pudding and Custard was spot on and the wine excellent.

Mr Spence...

Visited here while staying in the area. The landlord was the most funny person ever he made us feel so welcome, spent our whole time there laughing. Staff were so friendly and happy nothing was too much bother. Food was home made and chips were out of this world. First impressions for us this pub is a hidden gem it’s small but it’s lovely inside and the food and staff were 10/10 for us, would defiantly return based on this alone.

Was on our way to Liverpool and thought we'd stop here for some 'liquid replenishment'. Glad that we did! What a cosy, little establishment :) My friend, & I, were made to feel welcome as soon as we entered and up until we left (which was with reluctance as I could've stayed the whole night lol). Though we didn't try the food this time, it doesn't matter; it gives us an excuse to drop in again, anyway.
