We were in search of a country pub to start off our weekend away in Aberystwyth, and came across Y Ffarmers whilst trailing through a long google search. The pictures inticed us initially, and as we looked at the website it mentioned it was family friendly, which was just what we wanted so we knew that we could also bring the kids along too. What a find!!! We were so pleased with the lovely hamlet setting, gorgeous decor and charming outdoor seating area, complete with fairy lights!! The staff were welcoming and friendly, also understanding that we had three young kids with us (one being a busy 2 year old). They made us feel really appreciated even though there were lots of other tables to tend to! The menu was fantastic! My husband has celiac disease and quite often we find there not much gluten free choice, but as explained to us, nearly everything on the menu is home made and mostly gluten free! We were amazed, and the food did not disappoint. We all absolutely loved our meals, including all 3 kids. We left with 5 empty plates, and full bellies. I would definitely recommend if you’re looking for something that offers it all! What a lovely place !!

Our food at Y Ffarmers was lovely. The lamb steaks were both fill of flavour, and the chef was flexible to our party's dietary preference (no beetroot) and seemingly gave extra potatoes instead which was appreciated. The restaurant felt covid safe with screens and lots of space between tables, and ventilation - if you're a cold bod, bring a jumper. We sat inside but outside looked well decorated with lights and had a great cosy vibe from what we could see. The only thing that let down Y Ffarmers was the waitress, who was probably having a bad day but rather soured the experience. The other tables all seemed to be getting a warmer reception though, so there is hope! A note; if you order a pot of tea, be sure to also ask for milk, any sugars, and the teaspoon upfront, as we found we had to ask individually, for both rounds of tea. A lovely meal, and I imagine in non-covid times this is a thriving locals pub. There's parking opposite and a post box near by, which the bar staff helpfully indicated to us.

A fantastic country pub, so good we went twice! Really enjoyed our 2 visits. Sunday lunch was superb. Generous portions and the pork belly was fantastic. Went again on Wednesday and on both occasions they fitted us in at short notice with our 2 dogs. As the weather was nice we sat in the outside area which was covered and comfy. You won't stumble on this pub due to the location but it is well worth the effort to find! 😍 Update: Sunday 31st March 2024. We made a return visit and it didn't disappoint. 5 out 5 in all areas. The Sunday lunch was fantastic and we had the dog seating area to ourselves which is a lovely room. The Lamb and Pork belly were our favourites but every meal was lovely. Recommended to all and worth venturing out of Aberystwyth for a meal.

We didn't find the welcome particularly warm. If anything slightly aloof. We ordered the fish and chips with mushy peas. I asked for a hoppy beer but neither of the ladies serving had any clue. So I just took what they thought might be hoppy. It wasn't. When the food arrived it was on cold plates. The peas were just warm. The fish was wet and the batter under the fish also wet. The chips tasted like they had been reheated rather than fresh. We were asked if everything was OK and partly out of politeness we says yes. It was far from OK and we should have sent the food back. The problem then is that you simply want to leave because the moment has gone. When we came to pay the bill I pointed out the food had been very poor. Both cold and of a poor standard. I did not ask for money off but it was volunteered. The lady taking payment was not very empathetic and essentially tried to chastise us for not sending the food back. To be perfectly honest we eat our pretty regularly and if both the kind of service we experienced and the quality of food and presentation is the norm then in our opinion the place is grossly over rated. Final comment... Had there been any warmth or genuine concern shown by either of the servers we would probably not have written this review. Whether we did not appear to be their type of customer...

We were really looking forward to eating here. We had wanted to go somewhere a bit special for my son's 18th birthday. The first thing to mar the event was them contesting that we had made a booking with them. It wasn't until my husband showed the confirmation email from them that they showed us to our table. We were not given a table in the restaurant area instead we were put in the "snug". An area that roomed 2 tables, one of which was taken by a family with young children. We all ordered from the set menu, the food arrived and though it was cooked well and contained good quality ingredients, there was nothing special about it considering the price. Nothing that made the food stand out. It could have been food at a Harvester or a Beefeater (but without the additional condiments/sauces and competitive prices). The point of going to Y Ffarmers was to support a local business and celebrate a special occasion in a venue with a nice atmosphere and above standard cuisine. So, we were left very disappointed by our experience, which was more comparable to having a standard pub meal but with elevated prices for what you were getting. Worst of all is that it was a bit of a dampener on what should have been a...

What an absolute gem of a place, I'm so glad I found it!

The setting is gorgeous, nice and quiet even when full, with wood fires giving a very comforting feel. A fresh menu, with traditional meals and some interesting twists. Very well stocked with a range of gins. The sorbet menu was impressive, which was perfect after stuffing myself as much as I could because the food was just too good.

All staff were friendly and attentive. I was impressed with what felt like a genuine personal warm welcome. I felt a bit nervous as I was coming in solo and with a voucher from a local glamping place (Dol Swynol - also highly recommended.) As soon as I walked through the door I felt comfortable, just one of those places you feel good in.

Well worth a drive out to, and you can have a walk in the beautiful surroundings to work up an appetite before - you'll want to come hungry to make the most of it.

Wish I'd taken photos as the food was spectacularly presented. In fact, the waitress asked if I was ok because I was taking so long to admire it rather than tucking in - it almost seemed a shame to eat a work of art!

Honestly, I'm so impressed with this place. Wish I lived closer but I'll visit next time I'm in the...
