We didn't find the welcome particularly warm. If anything slightly aloof. We ordered the fish and chips with mushy peas. I asked for a hoppy beer but neither of the ladies serving had any clue. So I just took what they thought might be hoppy. It wasn't. When the food arrived it was on cold plates. The peas were just warm. The fish was wet and the batter under the fish also wet. The chips tasted like they had been reheated rather than fresh. We were asked if everything was OK and partly out of politeness we says yes. It was far from OK and we should have sent the food back. The problem then is that you simply want to leave because the moment has gone. When we came to pay the bill I pointed out the food had been very poor. Both cold and of a poor standard. I did not ask for money off but it was volunteered. The lady taking payment was not very empathetic and essentially tried to chastise us for not sending the food back. To be perfectly honest we eat our pretty regularly and if both the kind of service we experienced and the quality of food and presentation is the norm then in our opinion the place is grossly over rated. Final comment... Had there been any warmth or genuine concern shown by either of the servers we would probably not have written this review. Whether we did not appear to be their type of customer...
Read moreWe were really looking forward to eating here. We had wanted to go somewhere a bit special for my son's 18th birthday. The first thing to mar the event was them contesting that we had made a booking with them. It wasn't until my husband showed the confirmation email from them that they showed us to our table. We were not given a table in the restaurant area instead we were put in the "snug". An area that roomed 2 tables, one of which was taken by a family with young children. We all ordered from the set menu, the food arrived and though it was cooked well and contained good quality ingredients, there was nothing special about it considering the price. Nothing that made the food stand out. It could have been food at a Harvester or a Beefeater (but without the additional condiments/sauces and competitive prices). The point of going to Y Ffarmers was to support a local business and celebrate a special occasion in a venue with a nice atmosphere and above standard cuisine. So, we were left very disappointed by our experience, which was more comparable to having a standard pub meal but with elevated prices for what you were getting. Worst of all is that it was a bit of a dampener on what should have been a...

The setting is gorgeous, nice and quiet even when full, with wood fires giving a very comforting feel. A fresh menu, with traditional meals and some interesting twists. Very well stocked with a range of gins. The sorbet menu was impressive, which was perfect after stuffing myself as much as I could because the food was just too good.
All staff were friendly and attentive. I was impressed with what felt like a genuine personal warm welcome. I felt a bit nervous as I was coming in solo and with a voucher from a local glamping place (Dol Swynol - also highly recommended.) As soon as I walked through the door I felt comfortable, just one of those places you feel good in.
Well worth a drive out to, and you can have a walk in the beautiful surroundings to work up an appetite before - you'll want to come hungry to make the most of it.
Wish I'd taken photos as the food was spectacularly presented. In fact, the waitress asked if I was ok because I was taking so long to admire it rather than tucking in - it almost seemed a shame to eat a work of art!
Honestly, I'm so impressed with this place. Wish I lived closer but I'll visit next time I'm in the...
