Well it has been some time since there was a review about this place and sadly it seems standards have slipped! We took our Mum here for her birthday based on some great word of mouth reviews. We checked the menu on-line and were looking forward to some great English fayre! WRONG! Mum is disabled and we visited the pub in advance to check where we'd be sitting to ensure it was suitable. When we arrived the table we'd been promised was taken and only one table remained and was set and reserved for us. No staff were immediately available to greet us so we made our own way over.

Once settled we had to ask for EVERYTHING from Menus to milk with the Coffee! We even got so fed up of waiting that WE called a staff member over to take our order The staff were plentiful but were all very very young and just seemed unable to have a system in place to cope with the busy Sunday afternoon crowd. We were given the wrong information about which roasts were available ( No beef!) and the menu was NOT the one published on their webiste. When we queried this we were told;

Hmmm well I wouldn't trust the website - it hasn't been updated in years How were we to know this?

When the food (finally) arrived the portions were disappointing, the meet tough to the point of inedible and all dishes were lukewarm at best. To be fair, when we complained the manager was very apologetic and offered to remove two of the dishes from the bill. The other staff however appeared stressed out, too busy to be disturbed and were even sniping at each other in view of the diners.

I was sat facing the bar area and I lost count of people querieing their bill and having to have items removed that had been added in error.

When our coffee's finally arrived (no milk, no teaspoons, no sugar) the cups had coffee sloshed all down the side and the decaff we requested we saw being served from a jar despite being charged the same as the filter coffee.

Despite all of this when the bill came we left the standard 10% tip - however as we left the restaurant we could hear one of the staff complaining about our tip in the kitchen. A perfect end to an awful afternoon. All in all very very disappointing - how this places keeps going AND BUSY I...

Simple decor, a bit boring to be honest. Functional layout with plenty of tables.

We went there on 'training' evening for some new staff. Some would find this annoying but we were advised that was the case on arrival so we were prepared. The new staff were polite and honest when they did not know something and promptly found out from other members of staff.

Range of food is quite diverse. As a vegetarian I chose the veggie sausages and mash - which were not on the menu we were presented with but were on the website menu so I asked for them and they did indeed have them. This oversight was not encouraging but they were very tasty and presented in a rather up market way - they were posh bangers and mash! They were also not your usual meat alternative Quorn/Cauldron veggie sausages either, a really nice blend of mashed up vegetables and spices.

The rest of my party went for a variety of dishes and all went down very well.

Food and wine was a bit pricey IMO for a 'pub' but the food was of a high standard and freshly prepared.

Nice range of beer & ales, which was nice especially the 'Hooky' (Hook Norton) bitter.

A bit more ambience and more interesting decor would have gained another star but overall a good choice for a nice...

Ruined mothers day treat with poor service.. so thanks for that after spending nearly £100 with you... They made an error on our table and expected 3 people to sit on a table of 2... and then got told we could have another table but we only have an hour!! Wow what a first impression and on mothers day too. Staff kept staring and clockwatching on our table, staff severley lack basic waiter/ customer service skills banging drinks on the table, no checking back on food. And not even thanking us or saying bye! Really special experience not! Food was tasty enough but should have been for the price, 2 roast potatoes and a 1 new potato though is a bit of a joke. Atmosphere terrible, would like to mention the senior lady was polite and the chef seemed to be polite the only saving grace. When its mothers day might there be an option for flowers on the table? Might there be an option for good customer service and for the whole waitering staff to not be clockwatching. Absolutely furious, mother had to go back in to request an itemised reciept and state that I never recieved a thank you. And to top it off presenting mum with the bill when all she wanted to do was order a...

This is one of my go to places to eat locally all the food was excellent apart from my end cap rump I asked for it middle rare pink in the middle no blood it came to me almost blue you could have gave it mouth to mouth and it would have ran around the back garden doing laps and jumping with joy at a chance of a go of another life. The waitress did ask me if I wanted my piece of rubber cooked abit more but I was put off by my steak so much i just took it home for the dogs it was still bleeding blood 45 minutes later so was it rested I think not 🤔I just hope it was Sean night off because he is an excellent cook and a great host.

We had table booked, but was asked to move for to smaller unsuitable table next to post in entrance of door & kitchen where plates hot drinks were all being carried over my head,,more people kept arriving ,having to stand right next to us piled along the bar, I asked my beef not to be pink & gravy to be separate jug not on food it was poured all over & meat was pink ,my partner had pork 2 small fatty slices & rock hard crackling .,we was cramped between people coming & going out kitchen talking over me whilst eating my partner being brushed against coming in & out ,the chef squeezing between tables .

We went to the Anchor Inn the night before our Wolf Run. The food was served quickly and at a good temperature. I ordered a rib eye which I have to admit wasn't amazing, however okay. The service was very friendly and attentive. Overall I would go back again for the atmosphere and service. If the food had not improved, it would be my last.
