Sabai Thai Kitchen — Restaurant in Waverley

Tried this restaurant (delivered via Deliveroo) for the first time today as it had good reviews. I had the fish cakes, chicken panang, and coconut rice. They were sold out of prawn crackers I presume as they weren’t available which is quite unusual in itself. I was impressed they noted what was gluten free on the menu. It arrived hot and the packaging was good - paper bag, cardboard containers. The fishcakes were nice. The panang curry was different or somehow less flavourful than I’m used to (a dish I’ve had many times from many places) but it tasted ok. The only real downside was the chicken - it tasted reconstituted. I presume it was very cheap with a lot of added water perhaps, which I felt very uncomfortable about eating, so I didn’t finish it. Quite disappointing and I certainly can’t recommend it.. I think for the price the ingredients should be of higher quality. I may order again but I would only be willing to have something with prawns...

Ordered Massaman curry, Pad Kra Poa and salt and pepper squid for collection. When we went to collect at the time given, there was a slight communication issue and so the order didn't reach the kitchen properly. We were kindly offered a free drink and prawn crackers while we waited for the food to be ready. The food was ready within 10 minutes, and we really appreciated the great customer service.

As for the food, their Massaman curry is probably the best I've ever tasted. The beef was so succulent and tender. The salt and pepper squid is definitely up there with the best I've tried too, and the Pad Kra Poa was so delicious.

Had a wonderful time!! The restaurant is fairly small so got quiet quite quickly once all the other tables had left. However the service was incredibly friendly and attentive.

We ate off the dinner menu. We started with Thai Dumplings which were simple, fresh and came out very hot. And then tried the Beef in Oyster Sauce with a side of Coconut Rice and the Fried Rice with Prawns for mains. The Coconut Rice was more savoury than expected but that made it very moreish. And the prawns and vegetables in the Fried Rice were lovely and charred.
