My Family stayed at The Jolly Farmer for a family wedding recently and were shocked at the poor level of cleanliness and substandard facilities they offered in their family accommodation. As a close family member and resident in the Surrey Hills, I was embarrassed to hear that a local pub that I recommended, were offering such poor and unacceptable accommodation.||||Arriving late afternoon, they did not complain or tell us of their experience at the time because they did not want to worry us at a crucial time – the day before our daughter’s wedding. Also, as they arrived late, it would have been difficult to find accommodation for 5 guests and the wedding was the morning after.||||||On their arrival, they walked up a dirty staircase (see pictures), they could not eat there because the kitchen not at an acceptable level of cleanliness; amenities like cooking utensils and saucepans were old or rusty with grease and dirt on the cooker and oven electrical sockets were greasy and grimy, the crockery was old and stained.||||Also, the whole accommodation smelt of cigarette smoke, food was left in the cupboards from previous residents (maybe contract workers), there was mould in the shower, the toilet stained and was in a poor state, broken fitments on the walls of the bathroom, ||Having spent over £800 on Booking.com for the horrendous experience, they will complain accordingly for advertising such substandard accommodation.||||When they returned home after the wedding they informed us about their experience and sent me pictures and we were shocked that Booking.com could list this as acceptable accommodation. ||||If the accommodation has proved to be this poor, I definitely would not advise anyone...

So, I consulted the Good Beer Guide and came up with the Jolly Farmer. I had a meal there with my wife and discussed arrangements with the landlord, Steve. He has run the pub for many years and it's a true free house, without ties to any brewer or pub group. We hadn't planned to eat but the aromas from the vegetarian curry enticed us - I'm not a vegetarian but if all vegetarian food was that good, I would convert. But, to get to the point; the wake. The beers, from local independent brewers, suited everyone. I received many compliments on the choice of venue, such as this, extracted from an email the next day:
"The rear room at the Jolly Farmer was the right size with comfortable seating and tables for all, and there was plenty of good food. As is befitting for a GBG-listed pub, the beer range, quality and service was excellent. I’m sure that Colin [the deceased] would...
