Popped in for a pitstop a while ago, travelling via Crowborough and thinking "I could murder a fish and chips" and lo, a sign saying Blue Anchor appeared before me. Perfect. Waltzed in on a Saturday night to a packed out restaurant, no booking, didn't need a menu, I just wanted fish and chips. Not a problem. Got comfy and- now, I wasn't timing or anything - within about five minutes a beautiful waitress brought me a beautiful dish; win win. Generous bit of fish with crushed sea salt for garnish, lovely mushy peas (I can only assume they were prepared in-house) and triple cooked chips - now I'm no foodie and I didn't actually look at the menu so it might not be exactly as I've described, but either way, the fact they were able to accommodate me on a busy Saturday and put my dinner in front of me within ten minutes of arriving is really impressive. Brilliant take on a pub classic, possibly the best I've ever had. I've just been in again, only for a coffee this time, but I remembered how good they were the first time and felt like writing this. Oh, and call me a perv if you will, but it seems that the Blue Anchor employs THE most gorgeous waitresses...
Read moreWe came here on the first week of opening for a sunny lunch. The garden is spectacular, family friendly and secure, lots of nice clean comfortable garden furniture to sit on, Secure garden which is very good to know in future with the kids and dogs. NO WASPS!!!! there is a local pub that is full of them! this garden is wasp free! Lovely play area for the kids too. Service was with a smile, very polite and happy for our custom and we were served efficiently. Food came out well presented, nothing too fancy just real honest home cooked hearty food which is what you want in a pub (I think) Well looked after with table service in the garden and never a dry glass which was lovely.
We came back for their grand opening and was met by free glass of prosecco, Smily staff and a wonderful atmosphere. Live music and a really welcome, local feel.
They were very busy which is great to see in Crowborough and I hope it continues to be supported as it is a lovely pub with huge potential.
All of the staff and especially the new landlady were extremely pleasant and very friendly.
We will be back! Thank you for bringing us back a...
Read moreThe blue anchor Pub review from a young man As pubs go first of all this is a solid choice with a large indoor area for food and drink accompanied by a impressive beer garden with plenty of room for children to play about without coming too close to others. I must say a rather strange bar layout however this is forgiven for the selection of bevs which is plentyfull I do have some gripes but this is due to my personal opinion and not to be seen as a big negative the name of the pub hints to the blue tone and it definitely lives up to the name. With it being by the road this does create a background soundtrack of engine and road noise however the pleasant sound of people having a nice day out is louder. The staff where very nice and even though the head on my pint was rather on the big side I would not hesitate to come back here overall. Smoking and dogs allowed in garden is also a...
