I went with some friends to The Giants Rest on a lovely sunny day so took a table in the garden which was very peaceful and clean. We ordered at the bar with a lady who was pleasant but not overly friendly. Food wise we ordered leek and potato soup, a fish pate/mouse starter and a fish finger sandwich. Unfortunately, none of us were blown away with our food at all. The fish starter was lacking fish for a start but was served with a couple of slices of good quality toasted bread which was nice. The soup was sadly rather bland and the fish finger sandwich that I had, well half of it was left. The fish fingers were just full of what I could only describe as fillers, so potato and rusk. I could barely taste any fish and felt as if I was eating potato croquettes. It was served on good quality fresh granary bread but even the bread was inedible as it was smeared in far too much butter and mayonnaise so with the lack of fish, that was all that could be tasted. I did mention that I was rather disappointed with the sandwich to the lady that served us at the bar but was responded with, ‘Oh really, usually the customers love them’ with a very meaningless apology. Well I certainly didn’t. Neither of us will be going back here for food which is a shame as it used to be...
Read moreVisited last Saturday evening with a friend…….no waiting staff to welcome us and see us to our reserved table (they were just stood nattering at the bar). The young waitress was hopeless to say the least, didn’t inform us of any specials or what the pie of the day was. Ask what ingredients were in a particular dish, and she couldn’t tell me or even make the effort to find out. When the food was served to us we wasn’t offered any sauces/condiments. My friend had the vegetable moussaka, of which looked hideous as it was so sloppy. The pub itself was extremely warm of which made you feel uncomfortable, no members of staff made the effort to check on us as to whether we were happy with our food (nor did they ask when it came to the bill), and my pint of best bitter was really bland. And when we left, no members of staff were to be seen to thank us, as they all seemed to be hanging around the bar chatting to one another.
I had sent an email to the Long Man Inn regarding this matter, as well as commented on their Facebook page, yet they’ve ignored me. An establishment that likes to charge top prices, yet what the customer gets in return certainly doesn’t...
Read moreNice pub, however food is very disappointing. Ordered sausage ploughman's for £14.50. What arrived sadly, was not worth the money. Consisted of 2 normal size sausages, handful of bagged salad, 1 tomato, celery stick cut in 4 bits. 1 hunk of bread, supermarket pickled onions, grapes and small pot of chutney (assume this wasn't homemade). Beetroot falafel plougman £12.50, whilst the falalels were nice and moist, the rest of the ploughmans again was disappointing. Plougmans are meant to be hearty meals, this was more like a snack. Won't be returning and won't be recommending. Recommend the owners recognise that their food is overpriced for what is provided, and look at ingredients to ensure local and fresh. The table next to us had pie and the vegetables, which consisted of carrots and cabbage, looked dry and can only assume they were frozen vegetables. All in all a disappointing experience. Have given 2 stars for location, and cleanliness. The service was ok, wasn't told what the specials were and only saw them on the board when I went to the toilet. 45 minute wait for food, which for ploughmans and chips is a...
