We had a bad experience here and would recommend avoiding this pub.
We ordered food and after a 40 minute wait were told there had been a power cut; no eta on the food or anything else was offered. Then food started going out to other customers, some of whom had ordered after us but seemed to be regulars because of their familiarity with the staff.
After another 20 minute wait we were told that they had run out of what we ordered, followed by an expectant pause which gave us no option but to cancel and leave. Nothing else was offered, other than an apology.
It felt quite clearly like they preferred us to leave and then, even as we were leaving, a member of staff called out in a sarcastic tone āoh well, your drinks are on the house thenā. Offering our 2 drinks for free (sincerely) was the least we would expect after such poor service. We were polite and friendly and did nothing to warrant this kind of treatment.
There was poor attention to Covid safety here too, with waiting staff not wearing masks at tables and not maintaining even 1m distance from other customers.
Counter to what Andy Rivers has written, we didnāt āhave a whingeā. at any point. This is clearly a pub for the locals and doesnāt welcome...
Read moreRoom for Improvement! This establishment has it right in many ways... the service was quick, efficient, and friendly. However there are 3 things that were so much of a turn-off they really brought my rating down for them considerably. 1) The food is VERY over-priced. £19 for a Sunday roast is too much for a small country pub. It was tasty but the portion size was nothing to write home about, and 2) the cleanliness in the public areas and also the WC's is, well, quite dirty! and 3) they automatically include 12.5% for service on the bill (even for just a party of 2 people). I am a big tipper and not afraid to give, BUT I absolutely hate it when establishments assume they should receive a tip and, basically, intimidate people into leaving that tip. Yes, you can request for it to be removed, but everyone knows that most people do not want to do that and they just pay it. It is simply the wrong way to go about it. In my opinion number 1 and number 3 are just too much of a turn-off and they negate the great good...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreMy dad was up to stay so we thought we'd treat ourselves to Sunday lunch out. This was rated the best in our area so we thought we'd try. Sadly we were let down.
Is in an amazing location and the views in the garden were great. It's family run so your not pumping money into a corporate chain.
The staff seemed to be all family who knew a lot of the people dining in there which meant they were a little distracted but friendly.
The roast was average and the potions very small for the piece tag of £19!! When you add onto this the fact that they add 12% service to your bill without telling you or checking your happy to pay it a roast costs you £21.28.
If you're in a wheelchair, struggle to walk or have a pushchair it's not that great for access as the pubs on a hill and there's lots of steps to get to the garden.
Safe to say its a shame the service charge not informed about and the small portions mean we won't be visiting...
