5/5, Exceptional food, amazing service, big portions with quality as the centre focus, rare to get both, best restaurant in Hertfordshire.
For starters I had the Calamari which that alone would make me come back, best Calamari I’ve ever had.
For my main meal I had the Rib-Eye Steak which was cooked perfectly, which I had with Zucchini and red whine jus sauce. The meat was one of the best cuts I’ve ever had and upon talking with the owner Theo, he was very passionate in saying that they go out of their way to get Donald Russel cuts, was amazing, compliments to the chef.
Followed by the Banoffee Pie which was the perfect ratio of biscuit to cream, which is rare and the toffee in the middle to separate it, great way to end the evening if you have a sweet tooth.
I had a few cocktails, which was unbelievable value for money and unlike when travelling to London, at the Gables you definitely didn’t have that London Drink prices, brilliant prices for 2; highly recommend.
Definitely the best restaurant to go to in Hertfordshire and is my go to for sure, top recommendation, the staff are very friendly and accommodating, drinks were very good for pricing and the food was...
Read moreIt all started quite badly when I felt I was being pressured to confirm my booking the Friday evening before Mother's Day. Then on arrival parking is terrible. Not a good start. I thought I'd made my mind up about this place. Once I entered the place looked very nice. It was busy (Mother's Day is one of the busiest) but things were working. They ran a fixed menu for the day and then from that point on things just started getting better and better. The fix r menu had lots of choice and there were NO supplementary charges for certain dishes (annoys me), even the cheese board didn't. I ordered the Sunday roast and Gables being an Italian themed restaurant I was very surprised when it turned out to be one of the best I've ever had. All the food was brilliant. Well prepared, presented and tasted delicious. There was a little hiccup waiting for one of the drinks but as i mentioned it was very busy. That aside everything went very well. I would like to return to...
Read morePros: The restaurant was not cold. Cons: Waited over an hour and a quarter for the mains. No apologies until we complained. The quality of the food was generally poor. I asked for the veal to be taken back, due to being tough and flavourless. I was offered something else as a replacement but due to the extremely long wait and the other meals in the party being under par I politely declined with a simple "no thank you." It was accepted by the waiters but I was accosted by the highly aggressive owner on exit, who was adamant that there was nothing wrong with the meal. I have never had the experience of a manager being so rude to me and members of my family. As my mother explained to him, his behaviour "ruined our day" I would give zero stars...
