Food looked good but we didn't eat there because one female member of staff was particularly rude. Simply because we asked to sample a couple of ales before buying a pint as we didnt know them she said 'she was too busy serving two tables so couldnt bring us any samples' .. umm I know servers that could cope covering 10 tables and still do it with a smile. She needs to work in a different industry.. maybe serving prison food instead of serving customers in what is usually a fantastic pub. I went to the bar rather than talk to her after she was so rude to us and the barmaid was lovely. The ale she suggested to us was disgusting so I'm glad I ignored her..we were initially told we couldn't go to the bar and it was only table service but her table service was appalling. So we had two beers from the lovely barmaid and didn't eat because of the attitude of the server she was domineering and talked down to us, we were polite . Went to Old Inn in Widdecombe instead and service and food were exemplary. I wouldn't go back because of her attitude.. ruined the entire vibe. The other girls looked like they were working really hard. You need to do a staff review and get rid of your rotten apples because it's ruining your business.
We went on Sat 7th May.
I'm a food reviewer and this type of reception from a waitress is unacceptable. Hence not reviewing your food as was the intention...
Read moreWe've been to The Fingle Bridge Inn a few times now. The food and service is always great. They do an amazing vegan pasty which is what we always have now. We used to have the coronation chick pea, which was also amazing. The atmosphere is mostly nice unless its the summer holidays. We had so many different sets of kids from different families treating the river like a playground. Splashing about. Jumping in right next to us. Running back and forth while we tried to eat. The parents seemed to have no concern for the children's safety as they climbed up and down the bank. And we were getting splashed by the children in the river and frustrated by them running around our table while we tried to eat and have a conversation. I had to remind them to be careful while they stumbled along the top of the high bank near our table. Its a real shame parent's don't think to treat the pub like a food place here people want to eat and have conversations. Especially when there is plenty of opportunities nearby to play in the river. So if you want to avoid your food being splashed and having to childmind other people's children instead of having a nice conversation with your party I wouldn't go in the...
Read moreA beautiful pub nestled right on the River Teign. This was a perfect stop for refreshments before starting a long walk on a hot summer afternoon. We sat outside, where there are plenty of umbrellas for shade, and the view of the river (and bridge) is superb. It was incredibly busy, as it was a sunny Sunday afternoon, but the staff dealt with the rush brilliantly. On arrival, we were met with a sign that told us to wait patiently to be seated. While it may feel frustrating if you have to wait for a little while, it is just because they are waiting for tables to free up. Once a server came over, we were seated immediately and our orders taken promptly. Drinks and chips arrived within ten or so minutes, and it was easy to go inside to pay. The staff were superb, very friendly and happy to chat. The toilets are clean, the whole pub appears to be well looked after, and the chips were perfectly cooked.
As a bonus, the pub is adjacent to public footpaths, namely the Fisherman's Path, where you can start different walks, such as up towards Hunter's Path and Castle Drogo, with the pub waiting at the...
