Restaurant visit only so can not comment for the accomodation. First time visiting the restaurant but was pleasantly greeted on arrival by both the quaint and warming premises and the friendly front of house. We we ere served for the evening by Caitlin who initially came across as very welcoming and friendly and throughout the service provided attentive professional service. She was happy to build rapport and provide personal opinion to the menu whilst also showing genuine interest of guests on discussions. My wife and I shared the sourdough while you wait and the belly pork and burrata starters. The sourdough was lovely and chewy, the belly pork was perfectly crispy, and the burrata was fresh and light in flavour. For our main course, I enjoyed the 16oz ribeye cooked medium (as recommended) with the sides of sauteed greens with carrots. The ribeye, whilst both their most premium ribeye option, was one of the best steaks I have eaten. Whilst the veg was fresh, it possibly could have been slightly elevated to make it stand out a little more. The meat was wonderfully marbles with the signature gelatinous flavour pockets of a ribeye and whilst the size of the steak more than satisfied my hunger, left me craving more of it's flavour. My wife chose the Butternut squash, kale and pumpkin seeds tart which came with a side of new potatoes. Though I only tried a bite, the tart was wonderfully balanced, covering sweet and savoury notes and her plate was left clean. We each finished with a coffee and mini dessert, me choosing the brownie with a espresso and my with the white chocolate crème brulé with a latte. Both deserts were truly morish, though for a "mini dessert" were both a satisfying portion. The coffee was a tasty, non bitter roast that rounded off the evening. Our bill ended at a very reasonable £125 (rounded) and we will certainly be dining here again in the future.
Many thanks to both the kitchen and service staff for a...
Read moreFrom the outset, even before we arrived Louisa was the start of the show. She did her best to try to arrange an earlier check-in. Sadly this transpired not to be possible due to previous occupants having reserved a late check-out. But Louisa did try for us, and that's worth it's weight in gold. She also recognised me as we arrived for breakfast and check-out. Super friendly and attentive. A real asset to the business and should be rewarded by M&C for her amazing attitude and customer service.
The premises is located just off a very busy, main-artery A-road. That said, the traffic noise was well hidden and not disruptive. On to the accommodation. Check-in was straighforward, with the manager explaining that we couldn't check-in early for the reason already given. Fair enough. There weren't any guarantees - it was just a request from me (well - my wife!). But we were given the room key and instructions on the electronic key fob entry system for gaining access 'after hours'. This entrance was located at the top of the metal fire-escape and lit adequately by an external light.
The room itself was clean - both in the main area and the bathroom. However - it was a little on the 'cosy' side in terms of moving around. Also, it is now summer and a warm day. The lack of air conditioning these days is a big negative for me. It got excessively hot in the room for us overnight. Not good.
Our breakfasts were very nice on the whole. I had the full breakfast. However, the sauasages were of extremely low quality. Very mushy and tasteless - probably frozen. Also - we were told that no HP or brown sauce was available. An absolute travesty for a British fry-up!
M&C should up their game. If it wasn't for Louisa, the score would have been...

"We started with the shared main course The Butchers Block which was cooked to a perfect medium and melted in our mouths It consisted of Black Angus Steak, which was Ribeye 10oz ,Rump 7oz and two cuts of fillet 5oz served with beef brisket bone marrow and an excellent selection of different side dishes ,all washed down with a delightful bottle of red wine.
The service was outstanding, thanks in large part to our waitress, Lucy. She was attentive, friendly, and incredibly helpful in suggesting dishes based on our preferences. When I had a minor choking incident, Lucy acted quickly and calmly, bringing me a glass of water and ensuring I was okay. It's these small touches that truly elevate a dining experience."
"The restaurant itself was warm and inviting, with a cozy atmosphere that was perfect for a romantic evening. The lighting was soft, and the background music was subtle, creating a relaxed and enjoyable environment."
