Overall - this is a "do not go" for me. Unfortunately I have to give this one star. We may have caught them on a very bad day, but here was the awful, beyond ridiculous experience. Arrived about 12:30 for lunch. St around for 10 min with NO one around. Place is empty. Got up to leave, someone appears who thinks we just walked in, and offers us a table with menus. Very friendly, all seemed fine. Says will be back in a minute for order and drinks. 10 min later, we're still sitting unserved and completely alone. At this point a courier arrives, the waiter appears for them, has a 5 min chat, ignores us, then starts cleaning a table which hasn't been used. 5 min later, laughing at the ignorance, we interrupt and ask for our order to be taken, no apologies from them, but all is friendly and takes our drinks only order. The waiter then disappears for another 10 min. So we're sitting there waiting for two simple drinks when another customer walks in. They too sit there waiting for a full 5 minutes for some one to appear. A waiter then serves them after they badgered them, and they get their drinks. After which the staff ignore us again. After 45 min of sitting around and waiting for even 2 simple drinks which never came we've had enough. We assume it will be another hour before we get food, so we leave, but once again we had to wait 5 min just for someone to appear to tell them we were going.
Add to that, The place itself was shabby, dirty and desperately in need of a refurb, with the wall near me properly peeling and falling away. The menu was very expensive for the fairly typical pub food on offer.
In short, The eagle and child was utterly deserted of customers for a reason - it's rubbish in everyway. After leaving, we tried other pubs and cafes right nearby, and couldn't get in as they were all full. That says enough - Other places full, eagle and child...
Read moreI took my Mum to the Eagle and Child, Bispham Green for our evening meal. The waitresses were very helpful and assertive and hard working and nothing was too much trouble. They had decided our table, but when I saw some steps and knew Mum would struggle with her arthritic knee, they moved us to a more convenient table with absolutely no fuss at all. We both had the soup of the day, which was cauliflower and cheese. I'd worked all day in an active, demanding role, and my word, this dish was amazing. Absolutely gorgeous. We don't like excess pepper, and there was none of that here. Served with beautiful bread, an awesome dish, thankyou. I had a mushroom risotto, with the option of chicken. Mum had fish and chips. The fish was lightly battered, just how Mum likes it, and a lovely piece of fish. Our main courses were fantastic, thankyou. I had a Chocolate Pot for desert, can't just remember what Mum had, but Mum loved it, and I loved my desert. The venue wasn't heaving, just nicely busy with plenty of atmosphere, everyone enjoying their time there. A nice mix of locals and visitors. Our table was booked for 1930hr. Thankyou...
Read moreI was only passing through Bispham Green, And I haven’t had a drink of water for, I guess, around 11 and a half hours… so I stopped at the Eagle and child and as personal signs I entered through the front entrance spoke to the huge Barman, I politely waited my turn of course, and asked him if I could get some water? “Just go straight through to the toilet pal” I was informed, So I did, and I got a litre and a half of nice crisp cold water in my up cycled water container, Formaly a cordial bottle, and left via the back entrance. I couldn’t find any signs with regard leaving the premises so, I took a chance and used the back door.
Just as well as I did because I spotted a quaint little outdoor dining area and… They have a Bowling Green. It looks kind of worse for wear, it could do with a Gardner, A whole team of gardeners attentions actually. But then, what do I know? Well on bowling greens and gardening I know...
