The New Scarisbrick Arms — Restaurant in West Lancashire

There are some places I keep going back to: a) because the food is so wonderful b) because the people are so wonderful c) because the atmosphere is so wonderful and d) because they make me feel so special. Thiago's place is like that. Every time I come here, Thiago's daughter Ines lets me try something different . And every time my taste buds get blown away. Today it was the little authentic Portuguese fish cakes, and if you're thinking "I've tried the English ones from the local chippy" you couldn't be more wrong. These Portuguese fish cakes are much lighter, less stodgy, very delicate and so much more tasty. For me to prefer them over my usual whitebait or calamari comes as quite the surprise. But then I think little Ines is a wonderful chef. She taught me some Portuguese language skills once, and I had to scrabble through all my notes to remember my manners: "obrigado, comida deliciosa" 🥰 "muito muito delicioso" but then Ines stepped aside and let Thiago do what Thiago does best (see the photo of his sirloin steak below) 😮 WOW that boy knows how to make a great steak 🥰 Meanwhile, young Yasmine kept my Malbec topped up and I think I've ended the year by saving the best for last. I'll probably be back next week to start 2024 off in style as well. This is the one place I keep coming back to for more - for all the right reasons. Thank you 2023, you've been amazing. Let's hope 2024 brings more good times...

Despite getting £40 off the bill thanks to Rishi Sunak and the governments incentive to eat out on Mon Tues weds it was still a bit expensive for the food quality we got. One steak was so fatty and tasted off and although the pork chop was nice the mashed potato and small amount of Veg in red wine jus tasted of nothing (literally bland as anything) I thought this place was award winning but I certainly wouldn't be paying £13.95 for a cheese burger and frozen chips during normal times. The young male waiter I have to say was excellent very attentive and efficient were as to two young girls serving was terrible, they forgot orders having to come back and ask again and then took drinks orders and they never arrived. To be fair I suppose it was the first day of the eat out to help out so maybe they had been slammed but still if that was the case then my familys meal suffered...

Food was good for me (small portion) but not the rest of the group. but service was very poor. Not sure how but they took ages with our order. To put it into context three tables of people arrived after us and were served pretty much at same time or before us. Over an hour to wait for food is not good enough.....

Update Fantastic glad to see I have a response. Let's put it into context I have updated my review to change it slightly as requested. Just my food was good (although a small dish) the rest of the party did not really enjoy their food and this is my only review and no one elses. Let's get it straight when you arrive at 7.20. Food took well over an hour. 3 other tables served on or before us and we arrived first... Pathetic. At least apologise and not go about...
