Went around 3pm on a Sunday, wasn’t busy and only had one staff member behind the counter. I ordered a cake as I put my fork in I could tell it was a bit hard but still tried a nibble just in case I was wrong but no it was stale. When I took it back and told the lady she was taken aback and said she’d been serving it all day. My immediate thought was this cake had been sat out in an open glass cabinet with no covering all day! The other cakes were under glass domes. I told her again that I’m sorry but it is stale and she was like oh right sorry about that. There was no offer of a refund or substitute! So I said I’ll swap it for the date and apple slice hoping that should stay moist being out in the open. It was ok but later that day I was sick. I’m pretty sure it was food poisoning but couldn’t say what from, it may not have been related just a coincidence. Also when wiping the tables she didn’t spray them with cleaner first, she may have sprayed the cloth behind the counter before wiping but I did not see that. Needless to say I won’t be returning due to poor service and poor quality. I hope this review helps to make improvements in cleanliness, food storage and...
Read moreVisited 5th October about 11a.m to be greeted by a very very rude lady who was nasty about walking my little dog through the cafe to the outside seating area. The gate was locked. I ordered my food and was berated again saying I've been before (only once before) and I should know better. Completely devastated over the loss of my little dog only days before. I was treated with hostility and just wanted to leave the establishment but didn't want my husband to know what she said because he would be furious. On leaving the gate still locked. A very kind gentleman front of house opened the gate. I was in floods of tears telling him the lady in the cafe was very nasty to me. He was so considerate and concerned. I said I won't be returning he said he hoped I would. A long review but people should not be in hospitality is they cannot be courteous. Completely ruined what was a day out after such heartbreak. Will...
Read moreLovely coffee shop located just off the A631 at Hemswell Cliff. As part of the Hemswell Antique Centres Guardroom building the coffee shop offers a wide range of excellent home made food, including hot and cold refreshments, all available throughout the day. The cakes are fantastic!
With plenty of parking and the fact that the Guardroom Coffee shop is located just 100 yards or so from the main road it's a great place to pop in to. We often pop in for a meeting as there is convenient parking and free WIFI so that you can browse emails etc whilst enjoying a fresh coffee and sandwich.
If you've got a bit of extra time it's also worth having a look around the vast range of quality antiques on display too. You could easily pop in for 20 minutes and stay for a whole day as there are 3 other buildings at Hemswell Antique Centres...
