One of the best meals I have ever had. The service was excellent, very attentive and the food was served very quickly. All the courses were presented beautifully, tasted wonderful, and were very generous portions. The price was also very reasonable. I started with a cheese souffle with candied pecans which I thought sounded a little different, and it was, but wonderful. I then had a homemade chicken and leek pie with mash and garden vegetables which was just as good as the first course and I finished with elderflower panna cotta with rhubarb and home made lavender shortbread, again the flavours were incredible. My description doesn't do it justice, you have got to try for yourself. Many thanks for a superb lunch, a great way to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary. David

What a lovely traditional country pub. Excellent friendliness and service. Lots of places to sit and still see the views. Beautiful food at reasonable prices. I've added a picture of the menu but I think it's subject to change. Plenty of outdoor seating too. Food started at 6pm.

I have been to this pub on several occasions over the last three years and have seen 4 different landlords/landladies. The latest seemed up to now to have got a grip on the running of the place, with the good reviews on Tripadvisor and what I have seen in the way of customers. However, on my latest visit I was not only astonished but disgusted to see smoking in the bar!!!!!! Several customers were lighting their cigarettes on the open fire and puffing on them as they left the bar to continue to smoke outside. This left the smell of cigarette smoke drifting around the place which was unpleasant and spoilt my pint. It is illegal to smoke in an enclosed public place since 1st July 2007 as a consequence of the Health Act 2006, so why do the owners/bar staff allow it?.....Don't they...

Not as good as it used to be! We both had the Steak which was OK, but the Pepper Sauce was a tad on the runny side. What was somewhat disappointing was that we were not asked during the course of the meal if "...everything was ok..." or "...more drinks..." Also, when the meal arrived, we not asked if we wanted mustard, vinegar, etc.. This might seem a little over critical, but the place was not that busy, but the staff were pleasant enough. We were charged for the Pepper Sauce, although it had not been ordered, we assumed it came as 'standard'. This was deducted from the final bill. Their website has also been changed (still has the incorrect spelling of Faringdon though) and the booking system is...
