I've been to the Moreton Hall a few times and the food can be ok to good mostly. However, I've never felt the need to leave a review...good or bad, because it's never been great nor poor. Today is different though...to start, my step son's beer had a bad taste and had it changed to a different drink. Then we ordered food...everyone else's was ok, not great though. Certainly, again nothing to complain about... My lunch though was a totally different story, and I think I wouldn't be amiss to say, it was the worse lunch I've bought for many years. It was the steak sandwich, which came with fries and a small side salad. On the plus side, the fries were fine...but the steak sandwich was disgraceful...firstly, the steak was very sparsely placed in the bread, secondly, it wasn't cooked, but cremated and thirdly...and possibly the most worrying, was that out of the 8 pieces of leather (sorry beef) 2 of them were actually chicken. I will say though, the cooking was very consistent and they were equally cremated. I have attached photos to show the offending lunch. I'm not one to complain, and will normally just not return to a place, but felt really did need to be highlighted. I am fair, and will always give an honest review...good or bad, unfortunately, this time it's beyond bad. I will think twice before returning, but as I have had acceptable meals before, I may give them another chance, but maybe steer clear of the beef.

Gave us food poisoning Ate lunch at this venue yesterday (Sunday 10 Aug 2025) - party of two friends, we both ordered the roast beef Sunday lunch (pictured the actual dish I had) with different drinks. Within hours both of us were suffering gastrointestinal distress - resulting in eventual diarrhoea and overwhelming nausea. Clearly the food or its preparation was tainted and I wouldn't recommend anyone eating here. We both ordered the same dish and this was the only food we'd had in common on the day and we both went down with the symptoms at the same time. My friend and I hadn't seen each other for months so couldn't have had any common causes from beforehand. Had a horrible evening/night and I'm still feeling distinctly off-colour a day later. Waiting to find out if the management will take any action - apparently this will take days to work up the management system.

My friend and I often come here for some food, it’s a nice atmosphere and food is always nice. They have changed the menu, I had calamari (which was previously delicious) served with a Chinese seasoning, it was so heavily coated in this that it was inedible, incredibly salty (you can see how really seasoned this is in the photo), served with chilli sauce, miss the garlic aloe. My friend had the surf and turf which was okay, steak was cooked perfectly, chips again different, super crispy nothing inside. Then sat for an hour with empty plates on the table, two separate servers had been over to replace drinks and neither cleared the table. When we left, the plates were still there. A little disappointed to say the least. Its a pub we have always relied on as we know what to expect but I think it’s time to look elsewhere…

This was all distinctly average, and underwhelming. We attempted to book on the telephone as the website was showing "not available" so couldn't book online, left telephone messages which were not returned. Therefore we arrived as a walk in at approx 6pm on a Sunday - only pork left for a roast dinner (no chicken, no beef).

We were handed a drinks menu that looked promising for alcohol-free / no and low alcohol drinks - sadly this under-delivers, as much of the menu was not in stock, including the Bee's Knees alcohol-free prosecco. Later, I attempted the complicated feat of a cup of tea only to be asked "would Earl Grey do?" as they were out of Breakfast; in fairness they did then find me a breakfast tea teabag.

Covid security is decent, clear in/ out system, standing back from the bar is fine and the app ordering is under-advertised but a useful idea, which would be better if it could include modifications to meals eg burger without salad. There is a system outside of blue flags on tables indicating clean/ unclean - this system does not exist inside and as you pick your own table it is hard to know if you're picking a clean one.

Bar staff appeared somewhat dissatisfied with their roles, including one lady who managed to squeeze four swear-words of frustration into the brief transaction we shared.

Food was microwaved, chicken-ding style at best; most of the food was disappointing, some was inedible. The saving grace was the cauliflower salad which was well received, however this does sadly not make up for the universally under par experience endured by the rest of the table. Most amusingly the "seasoned fries" appear to have been seasoned in oil only; a peri-peri fry they are not.

If you can't get to a hungry horse or a harvester then this would do for that sort of dinner, but I wouldn't be thinking of here for a celebration. There's more to be said (including the tale of an inedible roast potato) but suffice to say I won't be coming back and would recommend others save their money too.

If you do go, don't forget to check with the staff about if you need to put your number plate into the computer, to avoid the parking ticket, as nobody wants...

Thank you for your response. Its saddens me that you have NOT read it correctly. Assuming it was a qualified chef & not someone reheating food it still should not have left your kitchen the way it did. As with regard to the member of staff in question they was not working but "eating their pack lunch ( hence my concerns as NO hand was used when coughing. They was also moved from different tables as and when customers came in. This was address to a member of your staff who was quite rude in response. As for getting in touch, I have indeed sent an email of which has not got any reply ? 15/04/23 Not the best experience to say the least, one of our main meals had to be returned as not cooked/luke warm. Waitress dealt with this in the upmost professional manner. HOWEVER, I didn't like eating my food having to listen to a member of your staff who hadn't started work but sat at a nearby table constantly coughing. When she did bother to use her hand rather than catch her cough she used it to wipe her nose ! What happens when both her hands are full carrying food how does she deal with things then.

Considering how busy they were our meals were brought to our table in a very reasonable time and hot. Even though its not local to ourselves we would definitely...
