I'd heard it had changed hands a year ago, and went based on new recommendation. So, we'd gone in there just after Christmas with family and it looked welcoming enough with decor made up, but needed to keep our coats on for a while until the bar area warmed up as the fire went out, with an empty log shack. Quickly became a full house, however, staff were attentive, and only 20 mins wait for food. I had a nut roast, with all the trimmings, and we were all happy with our meals, all very nicely cooked. Tip- if you go for a sunday roast or around bank holls, book well in advance. New Update - The manager has recently left to reventure into another local pub, taking his chef with him, so it is probably under interim management.

Lovely little pub, we called in today on our way home for a bit of lunch. We didn't book, but it wasn't super busy, although there was one other big group there. This pub is dog friendly, which is nice. We both had the southern fried chicken wrap, which was very tasty and full of flavour, came with a very generous side salad and portion of fries as well. Was very filling, and presented nicely. Staff were very polite. We will return next time we are passing. The toilet facilities are also very clean and tidy, a nice touch with quality soap and hand moisturiser avaliable.

We ordered the Seabass special, calamari special as well as fish & chips. Out of all the dishes, only the latter was decent. The first two on the specials board were unpalatable. Veg was overboiled and seabass tasteless. The supposed calamari was just batter, NO sign of ANY calamari. Very poor & we felt ripped off. One wonders about its ratings/ reviews on Google. Based on this experience, this is the kind of standard and quality that is the reason that pubs are closing across the nation. Please do better.

Having known this establishment from previous landlords and stayed there several times , we thought it would be nice today to pop back in as we have moved house into that part of the country.

Menu was rather odd. Proper old fashioned presentation...( how often are these cleaned ?).ahem... but seriously lacking in substance. Job vacancies at end of menu. 1 being a cleaner . Basic food choices Basic execution of what I saw and what we had. Nothing wrong with it. But basic. Sandwiches on brown bread ( nothing special) chips and bit of salad. It fed us.

However I did briefly see a burger go outside and from afar looked ok.

After lunch.. visited the ladies toilets... Good God !!! Had I utilised the conveniences first I blinkin well would of walked out! No lunch , no drinks ! Absolutely appalling state! Bins stuffed to the gills. Toilet seat swquewiff , toilet stained (🤮) bits of toilet paper everywhere. Clearly.. very clearly had not been cleaned since yesterday nor cleaned / checked regularly previously.

Regardless of possibly not having a cleaner ( see job adverts ) to open for business with filthy toilets is an absolute no for any establishment let alone a hospitality place !

For goodness sake ... get your priorities sorted!! If the toilets aren't important then I wonder if the kitchen cleanliness is ! And with good reason! And dont begin to say that either landlord didnt have time.. because you make time to be ready for service. There is absolutely no excuse for this.

I wish the new landlords luck with their venture. Fingers crossed this review makes you always prioritise what is important to ensure good service.

Having read the response it is abundantly clear that any criticism is reviewed and debunked ! Let me highlight the following, At no time did I bring the whole pubs cleanliness into disrepute. I have highlighted the absolutely filthy toilets. They were in a disgraceful state. That is a fact. Your actions ( or lack of ) have led to my reaction as a paying customer of your hospitality establishment. There is no excuses.

Furthermore, the food choices are basic! Burgers , fish and chips, scampi and chips .. lamb chops/ steak. Jacket potatoes ( when available) Sandwiches and baguettes. If you declare that its a 4 page extensive menu then you must of led a sheltered life. It is 4 pages of basic meals and choices ! Thats a fact !There is no local produce highlighted ( and you state about supporting local businesses šŸ¤”šŸ™„) No in season menu . Its your choice of menu. Thats up to yourselves. But you cant polish it up in to something it isnt . It is basic. Certainly not exciting. And frankly, the presentation of the menu is like stepping back into the 80s! You are a pub that serves food. Not a fine dining establishment. And to be as arrogant in your response re a tour of your kitchen .. seriously.. focus your energies on the important stuff.. e.g being ready for service. As I stated I wish you luck in your new venture. A change of attitude may help....

Very quiet Monday afternoon.

I'm not one for reviews and it takes a truly bad or good experience to do this, especially coming from a hospitality background but I was immensely disappointed with today's visit 14/4 after a re visit a couple of months ago.

I arrived and ordered immediately as I just wanted a burger and a coke, the coke I ordered came flat (no gas) i then later found out it wasn't coke and was zero sugar coke as that was all they had, which again, when I ordered wasn't explained and no alternative was given. I feel like I was a burden to the waitress for asking for this to be sorted as there was a sigh and a huff. Inside seemed very dull, there was no ambience, no heating, no background music..(it was very cold, I thought moving tables would help, it didn't). There were things hanging off walls down by the skirting boards in the seating room to the side, paint coming off the walls covered only by paintings, it just seems like general upkeep and maintenance had been neglected. It wasn't a pleasant environment. Chef apparently wasn't in the kitchen the majority of the time, FOH had to run around to try and find him which massively slowed service down. When the burger arrived, it was very different to what I had a couple of months ago with no definite menu change. The burger was a double patty (possibly 2oz maybe 3oz), dry and very overcooked and garnished with some brown lettuce again, no sauce, no flavour. Chips were soggy as if they had been sat under the pass lights for a while, coleslaw mainly consisted of fennel which was immensely strong, I also add, a nice touch with the fennel but was massively overpowering. As I was done with food, my 'fixed' coke zero arrived but by then I was done anyway. All in all, £21 for this i was not impressed. The waitress offered to take the drink off but I told her to leave it as to be honest, I just wanted to leave. I left 3/4 of my meal and 3/4 of a pint of...

Met with family for a meal. It was rated on trip advisor at 4.6 but our experience was far from that. We were sat for our 12.30 booking in a cold part of the pub. Our food and drink order was taken, the wrong drinks were the first thing to go wrong and then the waiting began. When starters were served they were OK but nothing special . When we finished these we waited around 80 minutes for our mains to arrive which were roast dinners. Others patrons were also complaining at the food items being presented and the length of time everything was taking with no update from the serving staff. The food items were hardly warm and not a lot of them for the price you are paying. We did not have desserts as we had already been in the pub for 3 hours at this point. Although it was obviously popular with the locals, I will not be returning and think it is highly overrated by...
