I have lived in Sparsholt for many years & seen The Plough through quite a few changes. In my opinion, the pub has now completely lost it's way & is a shadow of its former self. Hard to know where to start! So I'll start with 2 things that annoy me the most. Firstly, meal are served on the cheapest catering style crockery that has been round the block (or dishwasher) a few times. Very unprofessional & short-sighted. Ever heard of presentation? Secondly, how is it that other forward looking pubs can update their public furniture whilst The Plough carry on with chairs & tables that should be thrown in the skip? We're not fooled, they aren't vintage....just rickety & very uncomfortable. Food - the menu has been cut right down whilst prices have gone up. In general the food is not unpleasant, just nowhere near the quality it used to be before it changed hands. Big mistake, your core customer base is going to dwindle quite rapidly.... Service - had supper with a wedding party last week & all very uncomfortable with the overt 'chumminess' of the waiter. He may have thought it amusing but we found it creepy & totally unappreciated.
If the pub is to survive, it needs to change....and quick. Small steps will only make a cosmetic difference but fault lies with management. Please please listen to your loyal customers otherwise they will desert the only pub in the village &...
Read moreAs village locals, my partner and I are not strangers to visiting The Plough Inn for a Friday night drink or a Sunday roast, so when we got engaged, we were pleased to find out that they also do events. We booked The Plough Inn for our wedding reception last month and were so impressed and happy with how everything turned out.
Imogen was incredible at planning all the details and we were more than happy to let her take the reins. Throughout our planning meetings, she was so accommodating and knowledgeable while still making sure our preferences were the priority and that the process went as smoothly as possible.
The waitstaff were so friendly and professional and our guests loved the delicious buffet dinner options and incredible wedding cake all made by Zoe the chef and the talented kitchen staff. The cake was light and flavourful and decorated beautifully with flowers that matched our bouquets.
The decorations matched the day's vibes perfectly, from the handwritten chalk signs, to the board of the brides' baby photos, and the delicate wildflowers that Imogen picked herself on the wedding morning. There was plenty of space for guests to mill about in the private events area as well as climbing frames for the kids to enjoy.
My wife and I will be booking The Plough Inn again for any future events and highly recommend it...
Read moreVery disappointed - bland tasteless expensive food.
This would have been 2*s but the manager managed to raise it to three stars at the end with her interaction with us.
In short the pub is beautiful and would be a great place for a drink but sadly the food was completely under seasoned and very disappointing especially for the cost of the food - which was on the high side.
When we mentioned the lack of taste to the waitress she appeared to handle it really well by saying how important it was to get feedback and she would pass it on. We were therefore expecting the manager to come over and have a conversation with us but sadly that never happened.
The issue was never mentioned again and when the bill came it was for the full amount. When we were leaving we mentioned our disappointment to the manager who was very apologetic as this was the first she had heard of our issues (the waitress had not passed the message on). She kindly offered a refund for the mains but this was not what we had been after - all we wanted was an acknowledgment that things had not gone as planned.
It looks like the Sunday roast is brilliant and we might give that a go but don’t bother with...
