Great place to visit for any number of reasons, Atmosphere, Location, History & The Food. Tha atmosphere was really friendly & relaxed, the location in West Meon has a fabulous Old World village feel, as for history this should be a Mecca for every Cricket 🏏 buff as "Lord's Cricket Ground" was founded by Thomas Lord in 1814 & Thomas Lord himself now resides buried in the churchyard of St John the Evangelist in West Meon a short walk from the pub & finally the Food was really worth the eating. This has to be our new favourite place to eat (through if it's steak 🥩 Miller & Carter is for me still the best). There is a good car park but I would recommend arriving early as any as good as the Thomas Lord can get busy. As with many older villages the roads cannot be described as roomy but a no problem at all when taking care. The staff at the Thomas Lord were very friendly & helpful, the young lad who served our table went out of his way to help with my partner's allergies as she's coeliac. For my main course I had venison which was really good but my dessert was a baked Camembert which was the best I've ever had, normally a baked Camembert is shared around the table but this one was baked with a twist (maybe marmalade was involved)? Hands down the best I've ever tasted & to my shame it had no chance of being shared 🥴.

What a beautiful find, in the middle of a lovely quaint place!! The accommodations are chalets not far from Southampton. The main building they are attached to, is a beautiful pub, with seriously classic features inside!! You can see from the pictures. It’s very cosy, with a lovely, peaceful atmosphere. However, on the night we arrived, I ordered fish and chips, on the back of my friend having ordered it and it looking seriously nice. How disappointed I was!! The fish was huge, but not exactly cooked to optimal instructions. It was in batter, but greasy to the point that it appeared that the cooking has started when the oil was cold. Very disappointing, but not the be all and end all of the review, as the following morning breakfast was delightfully presented and went down a treat. The chalet was well presented, but there were cobwebs on the lighting, which were very noticeable. This may have just been because no one has been in the room for sometime. That’s me giving the benefit of the doubt. In saying that, the more disappointing aspects of the stay were not deal breakers and I would definitely stay there again in the future, as the staff were also very pleasant.

This is a really good village pub, which has unusual accommodation and does good food in a beautiful quiet village location. The staff are fantastic and really added to the enjoyment of our stay. We had a problem with our room and they were super helpful in sorting us out and moving us to a different room. We stayed on a B&B basis but had dinner there every night and we liked the food very much. There is a super outside seating area and at the weekend there is an outside pizza oven in operation. The rooms are modern lodges at the back of the main building. They are well appointed and have small outside areas for your own use. To summarise, if you're looking for a village inn, with good and unusual accommodation, that does really good food, is dog friendly and is staffed by lovely people. This should be at the top of your list.

Worst customer service I’ve ever experienced.

We got greeted as we walked into the pub and told to find a table. We sat outside on a table.

On the table, was a QR code to scan to order your food. We did this, I got an email confirmation and the money came out of my bank account. 25 mins had past and we still didn’t have our drinks. I decided to ask a member of staff for an update.

The lady I asked was very rude and said it was busy. She then went onto saying that we shouldn’t order at the table because the QR code doesn’t work. We felt she was implying it was our fault that we ordered on the QR code and obviously it wasn’t working. We were never told this.

I went to the bar and I asked the man if I could have an update on my order. He said very dismissively we are busy. I than began to explain the situation. He confirmed they had not received our order. He put it through again. He didn’t apologise or explain the situation. We felt like it was our fault and they were making us feel stupid for ordering from the QR code. When it clear says on every single table outside ‘Scan QR code to order’

I went back outside. Another 50 mins passed with no food. A lady than came outside and advised us they didn’t have the ingredients to make our food. At this point we’d be waiting an hour and 20 mins.

We updated our order and accepted things were missing and the food came out 15 mins later. We didn’t get an offers, refunds or apologies. It was very frustrating, upsetting and stressing experience. Especially because we had walked 2 hours to get to the pub so we’re starving. Very very disappoint by the attitude of staff and the response to this problem. It could have been dealt with a lot better.

We won’t...

My husband, our 17 month old and I were at The Thomas Lord for a New Year's Day lunch, we were there for two hours and in that time received our starters but no main courses. I asked the waitress whether the food would be ready within the next five minutes and if not we would like to settle our bill and leave. I was told there was no way the food would be ready within five minutes as another table were being served next but that the children's meal could be expedited if that would help. I declined; food arriving at different times after a two hour wait is not a sufficient resolution for woeful service. No apology or reduction to our bill was offered, the only explanation offered was that they had "had a couple of big tables in". Hardly a surprise on NYD.

The Thomas Lord was visibly understaffed today; either management are making greedy and unwise decisions about staffing numbers to try to maximise profit, or staff have called in sick on the most hungover day of the year but the latter seems unlikely having read other recent reviews. This is not a one off.

We have been loyal and frequent customers over the years, evidenced by a family member gifting us a £100 voucher for Christmas for The Thomas Lord. The quality of the food was nothing like the food we have eaten here in the past. The scallop starter included two tiny scallops and the rest prawns. For £56 of that gifted voucher today we had two three starters, two soft drinks and two alcoholic drinks. There remains £44 on our voucher and I doubt we will use it, we are in absolutely no hurry to return. This pub has never been the cheapest but for a long time it was the best by a country mile....

We stayed here in February as a couple and met family for a meal. ||The Pub is a gorgeous, quaint and atmospheric Pub. It has a lovely fireplace which gives an ambient feel and of course set in a beautiful rural village. ||Staff were all very friendly and helpful, absolutely no complaints there at all. We were led to an out building/cabin. The cabin was situated in the back, surrounded by a beautiful garden, very private and secluded. We loved the cabin, it was spacious, clean and cosy with a seating area, coffee/tea and biscuits and a bathroom with a fairly powerful shower. Plus we had a nice garden view from the lounge area of the cabin which was very calming. The bed was fairly comfortable and the cabin also had an iron and ironing board. ||As said before, I can’t fault the staff as they were all really kind and helpful. However, the food was a little underwhelming, considering the price of items on the menu. I had duck which I found was tough and tasteless. My husband had steak and it was dry. The calamari starters were not crisp but soggy, almost like they’d been stewed in oil and not deep fried at the correct temperature. One of the desserts was cold in the middle but we were offered another dessert and this was taken off the price - thank you. I hope my personal opinion of the food isn’t taken offensively because it is only an opinion and food does vary depending on different chefs etc. ||Overall though, we had a lovely time and wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again but would think twice about eating here if nothing changed in relation to the food/chef. Great service and a beautiful place to stay. Thank you to...
