Royal Ascot — Restaurant in Winkfield

Thought for a treat after my children's swimming lessons this evening we would get fish and chips. Thought it would be a nice and quick, easy dinner. Cash only so paid a charge in the local newsagents two doors away to get cash. Was told a 10 minute wait for the food that turned in to 25 minutes with many people who placed orders after me, getting their food. Trying to keep a 5 and 6 year old entertained that length of time with starving fish in the fish tank leaping over one another in the corner gagging for food (they kept thinking my children were going to feed them) was frustrating. When I asked how long it would be, was told 2 minutes which still was another 8 minutes. If the food was worth the wait I wouldn't be writing this review. But the food is tasteless. The chips I saw being thrown in the fryer seconds before being scooped out. They are anemic in colour and so bland. The fish is over fried, its all batter very little fish and again doesnt taste of anything other than greasy sweet and sour ball batter thats been fried for too long. Usual nonsense in here this evening: arrived to collect my 20.15 takeout (booked about two hours' prior to hopefully avoid the usual 20 minute wait when you pop in for something) and later learn they've barely even started working on it. They don't take any payments except cash (not too suspicious? ) and as I wait (and wait), I'm then told that one of my items is 'out of stock.' Huh? Good food but chaotic ordering system with long and disorganised queues during peak times. Also, refuse to join the 21st century and accept cards. Cash only. Will not visit again.

UPDATE Visited again after nearly two years. Complete and utter shambles. Still cash only. Still no ordering system. Just shouting food and everyone is confused. Staffed by teenagers who have no idea what they are doing. Expect long wait and if you order on Deliveroo, you’ll likely get cold food.
