We were meeting up with old friends and had booked this as it was a good half way point. we were told that we'd be sitting outside but that it was covered and heated, which in this day and age isn't unusual and we'd dressed accordingly. Having lived in the Cotswolds for around 30 years I'd expected it to be similar to other establishments that have outdoor seating, with overhead heaters, hay bales, sheepskins, fairy lights, blankets, generally hygge in aesthetic. Not unusual around here and certainly not rocket science to achieve. On arrival after buying our drinks at the bar we were then led outside through a muddy yard ( not dislike something from Steptoe ) to a filthy horse box. The chairs looked like they were from an eighties house clearance, there were dog bowls on the floor and the windows and doors on the horse box were either open or non existent so it was quite literally like sitting in a wind tunnel with a muddy yard on one side and a filthy unused marquee flapping in the wind on the other. Completely unfit for purpose and frankly the landlord should be ashamed to ask paying guests to sit in those conditions. We had our lunch which we ate in in a hurry - obviously it was cold as it had been carried across afore said yard - and rushed back inside to finish our drinks before hypothermia set in - only to see that there were still empty tables that had been empty all along as their reservations hadn't turned up. Whoever runs this place should be extremely embarrassed to think that this is even...
Read moreEvery Christmas Eve as a family we always go out for lunch, so this year it was The Fleece as we had never been before but had heard good reviews. Although the place itself was quaint for a party of thirteen it is not very suitable as we were crammed into three or four tables of differing heights and shapes. The food itself was varied depending on which course you were eating, my starter was the pate which was well presented and tasty, the sweet was also good. BUT the main course which was turkey was awful, the turkey itself can best be described as the sought you would buy from the chill counter in Tesco's, four slices of thin processed meat suitable for sandwiches with a table spoon of gravy, the roast potatoes were warm and seemed to have been cooked hours before and kept warm, they were rock hard and could only be cut by using the point of the knife and forcing entry, likewise the pigs in blankets which were likewise warm and hard. As for the veg it consisted of peas and sprouts, no cauliflower, no carrots, no parsnips all told after a forty mile drive and a bill of £340 pound I don't think the Fleece will be seeing us again.The...
Read moreWe moved to Evesham around 8 months ago and have read that The Fleece Inn is rated the best place around for food.||The venue itself is very nice. It’s such a quaint old English building with so many of its original features. ||We popped in for a drink a few months ago and it was extremely busy. Very small inside and not much seating, which does spoil the atmosphere of it’s busy. It was nice enough, and we decided we’d come back to try the food.||We didn’t understand the hype at all. We thought it was better than average pub food, but if this really is the best Evesham has to offer then I am very disappointed! Very limited white wine by the glass - the choice between 2 Sauvignon blancs or a pinot Grigio. Would be nice to have more options by the glass given most guests will be driving (no public transport and good luck getting a taxi unless you’ve pre booked). ||Definitely will not rush to come back. Would much rather try other places.||As a positive, it’s very...
