Friendly but slow service and poor food Really wanted to give a better review, as our initial interaction with the staff was really promising and helpful. We got given the perfect table as we were with our puppy, and they were very welcoming. Our drinks order came quickly (although we had to send them back initially as they were wrong), and our order was taken really quickly. Unfortunately that where it went down hill. The meals took ages. Nearly 40 mins to arrive. Regrettably it wasn’t worth the wait. I ordered the sirloin steak as medium and it came almost double well done. Hard and dry. I was gutted. I was really looking forward to it. My other half had the pork Sunday roast, and whilst the rest of the meal was really nice, the roast potatoes were awful. They seemed to have spent way too long under a heat lamp, and the you struggled to cut into them. Once you did get in, there was barely any potato inside. There appeared to be no management in the restaurant that night. Nobody took responsibility when I mentioned about my steak. Just a quick embarrassed sorry, but nothing was done about it. It’s a real shame to have to say this. Especially as the staff were so friendly, when you did manage to speak to them and also initially.

“There’s a place I want to try on the way home,” she said. I replied: “of course.” “It looks good, and it’s just off the motorway,” she said. In Australia, “just off the motorway” and “good” don’t go together. I lowered my expectations and turned on my indicator and she was right. The Swan at Whittington is just off the motorway and we arrived quickly. I’ll skip ahead to me being completely blown away by the food and atmosphere. We enjoyed a relaxing lunch in the sun, sampling some truly delicious snacks. The crispy halloumi fries were great, the Haddock Goujons with tartare sauce labelled in the menu as a 'Swan Classic' - were yummy and easy to see why they became a classic. The Pork Belly Loaded Fries; topped with sriracha, mayo, and melted cheese, were the best loaded fries I’ve had in ages - the pork belly had amazing crackling! I want to go back and try more of the food. The setting is serene— it was an unexpected oasis and our dog, Major, was welcomed. The staff were incredibly friendly, enhancing our overall experience. I highly recommend stopping by for a satisfying meal in a pleasant atmosphere.

Compared to the last visit to The Swan at Whittington (3-4 years ago), I left disappointed. The Haddock Goujons (starter) were extremely oily and the batter very thick compared to the size of the fish pieces. I opted for the roast lamb Sunday roast for my main course. The meat was quite grisly and very tough. The roast potatoes were very oily. The selection of side vegetables was massive for 1 person but the presentation was not great. The vegetables appeared to have simply been piled into a dish and were very messy (everything smothered in soggy cauliflower cheese). The staff were pleasant enough but once the mains were brought to the table, we didn't see the staff again. No-one checked to see if we were happy with our food. No-one asked if we wanted more drinks. Once finished, we waited about 15 minutes for the table to be cleared. The bill was provided quite quickly but then no-one came to take payment. The restaurant was extremely hot. Although the air-conditioning unit over the bar/tills was working, the unit in the main restaurant was turned off and all the windows were closed (around 23'C outside).

Title: A Delightful Dining Experience at Swan at Whittington

Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (5/5)

I recently had the pleasure of visiting Swan at Whittington, and I must say, it has become my go-to destination for a delightful Sunday roast dinner. The experience was nothing short of exceptional, and I am thrilled to share my positive review.

Let's start with the centrepiece of this culinary masterpiece—the roast beef. It was cooked to perfection, resulting in tender, succulent slices that melted in my mouth. The chefs at Swan at Whittington truly know their craft when it comes to preparing meat. I was left amazed by the impeccable texture and rich flavour of the beef.

But it wasn't just the beef that stole the show; the accompanying vegetables were equally impressive. I'm not exaggerating when I say that I have never tasted such beautifully cooked vegetables before. Each bite revealed a harmonious blend of freshness and flavours that delighted my taste buds. In fact, the vegetables were so delicious that I could have easily made a meal out of them alone.

The roast potatoes were a revelation. Crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside, they were the perfect complement to the beef. Their golden-brown exterior added a delightful crunch, while the soft, buttery interior left me craving more.

And let's not forget the gravy—the pièce de résistance of any roast dinner. The gravy at Swan at Whittington is nothing short of heavenly. Rich and flavourful, it enhanced the entire meal, bringing out the best in each component. It was the perfect finishing touch that elevated the dining experience to new heights.

Beyond the food, the service at Swan at Whittington was impeccable. The staff was friendly, attentive, and went above and beyond to ensure my dining experience was exceptional. The warm and welcoming ambiance of the restaurant added to the overall enjoyment, creating a comfortable setting to savour the delicious meal.

In conclusion, Swan at Whittington has truly mastered the art of serving a remarkable Sunday roast dinner. From the exceptional roast beef to the beautifully cooked vegetables, the experience was a culinary delight. Whether you're a meat lover or a vegetarian, this establishment offers something to satisfy everyone's palate. I can confidently say that I could indulge in their roast dinners every day and never tire of them. If you're looking for a memorable dining experience, I wholeheartedly recommend Swan at...

We went here for works Christmas meal after experiencing really good food previously. While I appreciate that we were a larger group than a normal booking, it definitely fell short this time.

One of the starters was forgotten, so it came out so late that everyone else had finished theirs.

The main courses ended up as a bit of a mess and staff served hot plates over peoples backs to serve directly to who had that dish; i personally ended up with my face almost on the table as the person next to me had their plate brought to them. I ordered one main and was given something completely different as they had that left. By the time my order came out, it had to go back once as it still wasn't right. It took so long that I was still eating when others had finished and staff had to be asked not to clear plates while some were finishing their food. The vegetarian christmas dinner options were so small they had half portions compared to the same versions of the meal with turkey. The vegetarian options didn't even have veggie pigs in blankets. It all just seemed to lack attention to detail.

The bread and butter pudding was delicious but needed more custard, but the indervidual cheese cakes all went back with only a couple of spoons out of them. They were claggy and unpalatable, a slice of a normal cheese cake would have been better.

I know Christmas meals are generally pricier than normal, but i had a christmas burger with chips no extras were included and a slice of bread and butter pudding and custard, drinks were bourght separately, and this came to £28.

Having been here several times before and had good reasonably priced food, I felt this experience and meal really didn't show the best side of this pub. Several people left...

Arrived about 2.30 pm on a Sunday, and it didn't seem too busy. We had made a booking via OpenTable a few minutes before our arrival. We were promptly shown to our table in a conservatory, which seemed nice enough. We ordered our drinks and they arrived promptly but then we had to ask to order our food as nobody came to our table. The mushroom starters arrived in a reasonable time and were really very creamy but not that garlicky and weren't served on tiger bread as stated in the menu, but they made a good appetiser all the same. The main which was the roast chicken for both of us arrived again in a reasonable time, and we were given a separate portion of cauliflower cheese , which we guessed just came with the meal. The said cauliflower cheese was a very odd neon colour but tasted ok. The chicken was plentiful but a bit bland, and the array of roasted vegetables and an extremely large pig in a blanket made the dinner more than palatable. We couldn't manage a dessert as we were rather full, but what we saw other guests eating looked appetising. We asked for the bill, which annoyingly had a 10% service charge automatically added. We would no doubt have left a tip, but this "optional" charge bumped the bill up significantly. We expected the waitress to ask if we were happy to pay this, but we were not given the option on payment. The full amount, including the 10%, was simply charged to our card. We paid just shy of £70 for Sunday lunch with starters for two with 3 drinks, and we both agreed this was a little steep for...
