Decided on a quick meal out this evening as my daughter had just gotten paid and wanted to treat us to tea. Decided on the park gate as we have been there before and food was nice, also the 2 for 1 offer seemed handy as my daughter was paying, when we arrived we took an available table, the lady who took our drinks was pleasent and the drinks arrived quite quickly.
I ordered a Pepsi max and what ever I was given I'm sure wasn't that it tasted more like diet coke which is too sickly with all the sacrin in it, the Fanta orange my daughter and husband ordered was watered down or a cheap varient of.
The starters arrived, my husband had prawn cocktail which was tasteless and too cold, it was as though it had just been brought out a chiller straight out to serve not allowed to raise to room temp. I had bourbon chicken pieces that were OK but the bourbon used in the sauce was either cheap or too heavy as it left a strong perfume taste in my mouth.
The main food arrived and was incorrect we ordered two brie and chutney burgers and one black and blue burger but three black and blue arrived, two were sent back and I kept the third, I started my meal so it wouldn't get cold while my husband and daughter sat waiting for their food. I must say the black and blue burger is a waste of money, the burger was gristley and the Stilton used is cheap and not very pleasent, when the other meals arrived my husbands face said it all, there was way too much chutney on the burger the brie was tasteless and the coleslaw had little taste also, at this point my younger daughter was approaching bed time and we were stuck for other options as going elsewhere was no option and waiting for other food was not worth it judging the quality, we ate as much as we could so we could get home and the little one to bed.
I would not recommend here right now, especially the burgers, the food doesn't seem its cooked with any care for quality, it seems thrown in a fryer out of the freezer, the meat quality is poor and when we aired out problems with our waitress she offered to "talk to the chef" who's response was it was cold because the door was open to out side and its cold out there, and they would speak to the supplier about the meat. That's about it. I was a little dissapointed with the response and I'm by no means blaming the chef wholly as he/she can only cook the food they have supplied, but I think for the money paid the quality is very poor. I will not be returning any time...
Read moreLook I get Christmas and the hell it causes this industry, I worked in it for 10 years but my god the food was not ok man. To start this tale I’ll tell you what me and my lovely wife had mixed grill and hunters chicken, cool easy and nice her food good nice chill but my food LORD HAVE MERCY. The sausages, look I get when your busy you can cook them in the fryer it’s normal it’s ok I don’t mind it, what I do mind is that it’s cooked for so long they looked as if they had years of childhood trauma beating them down. Next the chicken I'm not asking a lot a little salt pepper and cooked on the grill, again if your busy I get you batch cook and leave some in a hot hold but my god Gandhi’s flip flop had more flavour and moisture to it. The gammon was ok but the steak my god the steak I asked for medium rare and I get it sometimes you over cook nothing to cry about from me it is what it is but when it came out so broken I feel as if a cow died for no reason I know it sat in a hot hold after it’s been cooked and again I don’t care enough if it’s over but Jesus have some pride gang it’s your food you send to folks and I get your part of a chain so hey why care but dammm man I felt like I killed the family cat and this was my punishment 🥲. To make you guys understand I came to the epiphany half way through the food as I was about to send the meal back and the thought flew to me what’s the point if this is how you start how can you fix something that is ultimately so broken there is no point and I get that happens working for a chain but man I can say you deffo need a new chef or change the dynamics of the kitchen but if more people like me come to eat you would lose customers but I finished it off as wasting food is a no no for me FOH staff lovely nice lady’s Have a good...
Read moreUpdate: We gave the park gate another chance, and I'm sorry to this time the overall experience was worse alot worse, according to the Marston web site they open at 11am and start to serve food at 11.30am, well this is certainly not the case as we were told by one of the staff, we open at 11.30am and serve food from 12.00pm!! So as it was hot outside we waited inside by the bar for the next 20 minutes or so, now gone 11.30 someone finally took our order. Now this is one thing but the look we got for waiting inside was something else, we got the impression they didnt like us waiting inside and we should have waited outside, well if you updated website with the correct opening times then this wont happen would it. And to the food, small portions of cheap food which they charge a fortune for. Certainly not happy with the quality of the food, small portions and the prices charged, 2 burgers, hunters chicken and 3 soft drinks £34!! And that's with a 30% discount!!! The only thing that is any good is the chips, but the rest of it no.. Suffice to say I WILL NOT BE GOING HERE AGAIN!!! I've always liked the Park Gate pub but I haven't visited in a while, the last time we went 2 meals and drinks were about £20ins pounds, now I know everything has gone up but we ordered fish and chips, burger and 2 drinks and that came to over £30.... and the size of the portions are now very small my burger looked like a child's meal and the fish and chips well there was hardly any fish it was mostly batter. The pub is also getting very tired and could with being redecorated. But as I say I do like the park gate and its a lovely place to have a drink in the summer they just need to reduce their prices a bit, how about a sending some third off vouchers like they...
