What a lovely little gem off the beaten track. i cycled and drove past here many times without even knowing the Holy Grail of pub cobs existed, until i saw a van saying "The Anchor, No cobs are kept in this van overnight"

after asking a few friends the shock on their face was real when they found out I'd never been.

so one Saturday a friend and I decided to talk a long walk up the canal, through a country lane as to feel the reward inside with more appreciation.

the cobs: INCREDIBLE... beef so succulent, Ham so salty and divine, Cheese, could be used as a weapon. the tasty cobs come with a months worth of fresh salad, you can even choose some lovely pickles, piccalilli or chutney (locally sourced from bewdley)

pork pie: is one enough?

the pub: its old school so dont expect all your fancy stuff but its got everything needed to was down 2 cobs. i like a carling, and this tasted like it was true Burton water itself, lovely pint. when asking for a pint of orance juice, only the bricvic in a tiny bottle was presented so that was a tad overpriced.

overall: do it, go, go on! the staff are great, friendly and smiling, and the place is spotless. so many staff around cleaning and keeping it looking nice and the pub has that 'old pub' feel to it which i love. just remember its CASH ONLY they do have a cash machine but just fore warning you.

you wont regret a visit...

This is a great little pub and when I’m back in the area which is often it’s a must do! Been coming here 40 years and the cobs have always been amazing a pint or two and a couple of cheese cobs perfect . BUT after all of these years yesterday’s cheese cobs were very disappointing, clearly the cheese they use normally has been swapped for something far inferior, a very sad day. One of the group said perhaps they are trying to save money but these are the same price as the others but as I pointed out it’s a cheaper filling and you get less cheese than beef in the cob. Yes I could perhaps have a different cob but that’s not the point. It’s still a fantastic little pub but the shine has been taken off it …. Bring back the good cheese…. Bring back the good...

The Anchor Inn is a village pub well known for its fantastic cobs and a wide selection of traditional beers and ciders. It offers a friendly atmosphere, making it a great place for families, including children and dogs. The pub has no hot food but serves fresh cobs, pork pies, and sausage rolls. With wheelchair accessibility and plenty of covered outdoor space, it is well worth a visit. Some of the customers' Favourite munches are… Ham Cob with a Pint of Thatchers Blood Orange Cider Beef Cob and Salad and a Pint of Rattler Cider Beef Ham and Cheese Platter Ham Cob Beef Cob Pork Pie Ham and Cheese Cobb Salad Cobs and Salad Platter Kit's Pickled Shallots Cheese Cob and Salad Beef Cobb Salad the cobs are...

We walked along the canal towpath from Cookley yesterday, towards Caunsall, and three people we passed, recommended visiting the Anchor Inn. 'You won't get out of there sober', one told us. Another one said, 'they do rolls and snacks, really cheap'. 'Its a great pub,' said the other. So we only had a hot beverages but the service was excellent, the staff really friendly, and the provisions good too. As we're only allowed outside seating, they made sure it was comfortable for everyone, with heating, coverage, and lots of smiling staff on standby, who couldn't do enough for us.

Absolute gem of a place, huge amount of seating outside and all under cover. There are also some heaters to help keep you warm. Sandwiches (cobs) are superb value. Only cheese, beef, or ham but amazing as they are very generous with filling, and the side salad is a meal in itself. Parking can be tricky at busy times but worth a visit and very dog friendly. They have opened up a new car park a few metres down the road for additional parking. Please note this is a cash only venue but there is a card machine inside. But you are better bring cash in case it isn't working.
