UPDATE! Absolutely horrible food! Honest to goodness. If they make any thing from scratch, I would be interested to know what it is. I guarantee you if it's from the fryer, it was dropped in from a frozen bag. And then there's the stench of sewage emanating from the restrooms which, by the way are quite close to the kitchen. How the hell can you eat a meal and smell sewage?? Pretty typical mountain bar/restaurant that has a local, regular following. I gave it 4 stars because the food can be hit and miss from one extreme to the other. We have had Great meals with a very short wait time depending on who is in the kitchen. We've also had some very poor meals that took an extreme amount of time to the table. Give them a try and cross your fingers that the good cook is in the kitchen. Update! Apparently, there is no longer...
Read moreOn our High Pointers adventure we caught the sunset at Mount Davis and then came upon this restaurant. It looks sketchy when you first walk in but then you seat yourself in the dining area (not the.bar) and you see all the work they put into a remodel. I had the chicken dinner (which it turns out is not chicken tenders but instead a breast, a wing, a thigh, and a drumstick). It was amazing! Not greasy at all. Good and crispy and light (great trick for fried chicken). My husband got the burger. Omg. So so so good. Not overcooked at all. And HUGE. We shared the delicious fries and side salad (skipped the weird pink pickled egg).our server was youngest girl there. It did great. All servers checked in on us. If for some weird reason we were ever in this area again this is where...

We got the large Tavern Burger which was way bigger than I thought and was excellent. For a burger that big, it was seasoned perfectly and cooked just as it should. The price for a burger that size would have been double anywhere else. Incredible value.
We also got the Reuben which was really good too. Thick bread that was toasted perfectly.
The portobello mushrooms were hand breaded, I think and really good too. Hot pepper cheese balls were nice also.
For a "tavern" off 40, last minute, on a Sunday...there's nothing better within miles. And if there was, you'd have paid...
