All the meat was dry. The dressing was scraped from the sides of the overcooked pan. The giblet gravy looked like it had alittle shredded chicken added to water. The Mac & cheese was soupy. The slaw & the tea was great. The bread pudding was also dry. The banana pudding was instant with alot of crackers and like hunting for treasure to find a banana. My mom & I went for lunch dine-in and $30 later we were still hungry and had tasted enough of disappointment. I gave 1-star for the slaw & tea but you can only eat so much slaw when you have nothing to go with it. The cooks most definitely need to go take some cooking lessons!! I will never eat there again.
Well now, let me respond to your comment from your establishment: Instead of trying to "belittle" me (your words, not mine), why didn't you try to be apologetic at first and try to get me to call you, visit you for a chat, or come back in to try and fix the problem? I gave you 5-stars on your service and your atmosphere. I left out the part that there was less than 10 customers (us 2 included). You have a beautiful building but the food was lacking drastically. Learn to take some criticism so you can make things better instead of trying to "make excuses and push the blame back to me". Clearly, I didn't cook the food. I just wanted a nice eatable lunch for my $30. God bless you...
Read moreWe stopped by for dinner on the way from Aiken to Augusta. They close relatively early in the evening so don't plan to come here at 9 or 10pm. They have a decent variety of buffet options. Their hash is is great. When we came there were about 5 or 6 varieties of meat, including ribs, baked and fried chicken, pulled pork, pulled chicken and shredded pork. The sauce at all the tables is a Carolina based vinegar style, so if you want something a bit more tomato based, you'll have to request it. The rice is a little bland (which is why you cover it in hash), but the overall quality of the food is pretty good. It's not the best BBQ I've had, but it's good homestyle cooking and you can get your fill. The price is reasonable, at about 10 dollars a plate, but you can't take any with you. My wife says the slaw is okay, the corn on the cob is great but most of the vegetables seem to have come from a can. The bathrooms could probably stand to use a bit of renovating, but there is plenty of space in the building. Lots of space for what seems like parties and gatherings. Also, exposed wood almost everywhere, so it has a nice rustic homey feel. Would recommend, and we'll probably...
Read moreBeing born and raised in a poor, small town in South Carolina, I have had my share of barbecue. The wait staff seemed nice enough, so no complaints there. The vegetables were a touch on the bland side and could use a bit of seasoning. I skipped the potatoes for mac and cheese. It was OK and similar to any mac and cheese one would find in a buffet joint. The hush-puppies were really good, and I could probably make a meal off of just those.
The pork on the other hand was very mediocre. It has a heavy vinegar flavor, which isn't bad, but the one flavor I wanted, that is crucial to any barbecue, was missing.....smoke. I would almost be willing to bet money that this pork was cooked in an oven and basted and finished with vinegar to mask the blandness. If that's the type of meat you like, that's fine, but do not call it barbecue. It's just insulting to a true barbecue lover.
I also had some banana pudding for dessert. It was surprisingly pretty good, and I had a second helping just to be sure. (Never can be too careful, ya know!)
Anyways overall the place is OK. It'll never win any awards with the current menu, but I can see taking a family there for a meal every...
