Honestly .... a bit of a let down. The server didnt know anything other than the catfish she grew up on, the atmosphere was very welcoming and pleasant. Very clean and very nicely decorated . The prices are extremely steep by 2 to 5 dollars too much. I understand some of the fish isnt local but let's not over kill. Success comes from WITHIN not from the exterior wants . The next let down was the size of the plate you receive. I order the mahi over rice. It was not seasoned correctly at all, and worse I paid i think $20 almost . It was between $18-23. Dollars and I literally received a small but thick filet, even though it was thick it was still too small for the thickness to amount to that price. Rice is 1 dollar for the blackened and around 3 dollars for the good minute rice with 5 or 6 bags per box. We were not served in a timely manner , it took about 20 30 min. With 3 other family's one eating already and the kids chicken plates had a funky taste to them. My kids refused to eat it and they eat almost anything. The fries were I think homemade and those were great the little fried crab claws were very delicious. Seasoned perfectly. We went thirsty several times the waitress needs more training. I wish I could leave a better review but I wouldnt be honest if I did , I am not from alabama I know what many plates could be and taste like along with the cost of the plate per cost of the specifics, and cost of living in the state or area. I mention that bc I am sure people believe it's the best thing they ever had but they dont know what good can actually be if they think the fish market is that great. It's good but on a low level. I dont...
Read moreGreat Place for Fish and seafood. Family oed and operated. Eric and Val are the best friends of mine. Eric and I met at my firework stand in lincoln. An since that day we have went on vacation at the same time and stayed near as well went on a fishing trip together. We help each other out no matter what it might be. He was very nice the 1st time we met. An since nothing has changed but our ages. The Catfish is locally caught on a daily basis. All other items are from within U.S. waters and made available to you as freshly as possible. His Shrimp is as fresh as you would go to the gulf and buy it unless they had received it from tbe shrimp boat the same day as the catch. Otherwise 99% of the Shrimp Boats do a flash freeze and store them for up to as little as 5 days or more if they are on good shrimp grounds. And it may be 10 days before they return to dock. So most shrimp caught today is likely to be 2 to 3wks old before you can have them with your next meal. So check out his shrimp before you decide to make a seafood run to Florida. They also offer crawfish and I know how fresh these things are and most people do. But for those that dont you have to cook them while they are alive so they cant be any fresher. Unless you are buying them after season an in that case they will be the freshest thing you can buy. An baudan sausage he has that too. Go check them out at Hwy 77 south of I20 near the east end of speedway blvd. Or lenlock just...
Read moreVery disappointed after reading all the reviews, but let me explain why… Greeted by friendly staff, as many have stated. Ordered Boudin balls, they were fabulous. Wife ordered blackened grouper, okra, mashed potatoes with gravy, I also ordered blackened grouper, okra, and cole slaw. Our order was called back to us, we confirmed, but when it arrived, my wife didn’t have okra, they pulled the printed ticket, not the written, and of course if it didn’t get transferred from the written order, the printed ticket wouldn’t have the okra, no worries though, we shared mine. Now to the issue! Most of the area has probably only ever had catfish, so maybe they would never know the difference in other fish on the menu, but when I order grouper and get a thin fillet of tilapia, on both plates, that’s an issue! From the cooks, to the servers, someone should know the difference besides me. So when you decide to serve me tilapia instead of grouper, which is a thicker fillet, and doesn’t look anything alike, and still charge me for grouper, you absolutely can count on me not returning. I’ll take that loss, no worries… My dad’s side of the family are Floridians, fish has been a major portion of my diet my entire life. I use to cook at a fish house in my younger years in Florida, I know my fish. I am also a well traveled veteran. But thanks for the fantastic boudin balls and friendly service...
