We had a great experience at the Southern Roots Restaurant. There is valet parking and parking was at a premium on Saturday evening - the Valet Parking is covered by the restaurant for diners. The restaurant has upscale food offerings and the dress code was fairly relaxed as it is a beach side resort. This worked well for us because we were dressed on the too casual side and no one made us feel awkward or unwelcome...it is Fairhope, AL afterall and kindness comes standard. We needed wheelchair accessibility and although it was a bit of a labrynth to get back to the Southern Roots Restaurant (there are several restaurants there) we were able to navigate well enough. Our server was excellent, he really knew the menu well and gave us good recommendations and answered all our questions. We ordered the Octopus (recommended) as an appetizer and it was excellent. They said they will likely bring it out in the coming months as an entree. My wife had the filet mignon and while cooked perfectly the marinade was not our liking. I had the grouper which I enjoyed and another in our party had the mushroom risotto. We also shared the bread pudding which we all enjoyed. If you would like a seaside view, then make an advanced...

My wife and I were mistaken for tourist when taking her parents to dinner.
We ordered a bottle of "Napa" (only Napa 2017 on the wine list) Silver Oak with our steak dinners to later see and taste it was a 2019 Alexander Valley Silver Oak (big difference). After bringing this to our servers' attention the manager interrupted our dinner to say the Alexander Valley Silver Oak was more expensive than Napa. I stopped her as she was absolutely wrong and asked that she educate herself .
The manager came back again during our meal and confirmed the Alexander Valley was less expensive, and she would credit 20% off the advertised $280 bottle.
See photo screen shot of a 30 second Google research on this wine price.
I understand a restaurant markup, however a 20% discount from the Napa bottle that is about 100% more, and the fact that we had to pour our own overpriced wine is a slap in the face.
We have a home close by, have dined here many times, own property in town, operate business locally and cannot recommend this restaurant due to the predatory business practices.
I highly recommend eating at Washhouse, Pearl, Hope Farm or...
Read moreWe were so excited for Christmas Dinner first time here. But tonights meal was not satisfying at all very dissapointed. They first of all showed a completley different Christmas menue online and the lady manager I guess for the night apoligized said this is the menu and had the nerve to say we should've screen shot it. Who thinks to do that when we expect the menu is what we saw online and they called twice if everything was ok. Even the people at the table next to us said the same the menue changed and was different.
The first course was so salty it was hardly any taste but salt. Second course I had the Duck, now I have had a propper Duck before now and that was way too fatty not good at all and burnt on the skin. The beef was fatty too. Wouldn't...
