El Mexicano — Restaurant in Alamo

I have never written a review before and hope this information will help improve their newly open business. We loved the decor. I asked the young waitress a question concerning the hotness of the sauces and she didn't know. She did ask the other waitress by yelling across the room. She did this many times before we left (our order was to go). I did receive my food in a timely manner. When I got home I was very disappointed. My burrito was snack size. I paid extra for it to be smoothered in sauce and it only contained about a tablespoon of sauce. The beans and rice were minimal. The groundbeef had the consistency of mush. When I opened the salsa I knew it was tomato sauce.....yuck! The refried beans tasted like they came out of a can. I will not be going back nor will I refer anyone. The food is great. The food really has improved with new owner change a few months ago. Owner really takes pride. I am a regular and I like this restaurant and recommend it.

An area that needs to be corrected is the bill. If you are to up-charge to pay with a card vs. cash, you need to let customers know there will be an up charge. This needs to be clear with a sign on the wall and percentage charged.

The price on the bill needs to match prices on menu, not up-charged and then discounted back later. If you do this then cash customers are paying tax at a higher rate than menu price. This billing isn’t correct and hard to figure out. Price on ticket should simply be price on menu, up-charge card customer after then have total so its clear. Tea was sour. Had to ask for more water, chips, salsa, and tortillas. Ordered fried fish - came out baked. Ordered quesadilla with no vegetables - came with vegetables. Ordered fajitas with cheese sauce - no cheese sauce. Didnt get my shrimp. The rice was so over cooked it was crispy. Sister ordered spicy cheese dip and a taco. Neither was delivered. At this point, we were ready to leave so we didn't even bother to ask. The waitress never came back to check on us. She set in a booth down from us with a boy friend. Had to stop another waiter to help us. The waitress that was supposed to wait on us checked us out at the register. She tried to charge my sister for a meal that she never delivered.
