My review is not for the hotel, but the restaurant.
My family, and by family, I mean my entire family (uncles, aunts, cousins, second cousins⊠several generations!) have always come to The Lodge for dinners or lake stops for lunches. The former owners, Tim and Shannon, did a wonderful job of making a nice place with good food that we could depend on. Delicious soups in the cold months at the cabin, the famed Michigan salad, amazing pizzas, great selection of local beers on tap, amazing specials. Yes, the wait was a lot sometimes and the service could be slow, but it was always packed! Understandable.
We just spent a week at our family cabin and my husband and I gave it two chances after my family who arrived the day before said it was awful.
Itâs sadly not the same Lewiston Lodge.
The food is extremely overpriced (our second chance for them was today - 3 burgers and fries, Michigan salad and a side salad was $92. Ninety. Two. Dollars. For lunch.) Iâm a downstater that doesnât bat an eye at a $200+ dinner. For good food. This is just awful food and exorbitant prices.
I ordered broiled cod the other day. So did my mom. And my husband got fish fry. The broiled cod dinners were, for lack of better words, disgusting. They were broiled⊠at some point that day. Then microwaved. My cod was so rubbery you could barely cut it with a knife and fork (not flaky at all), and cold. The two tiny yukon gold potatoes were the greenish dark color of an over microwaved potato and had hot spots. Very clearly canned green beans. I could have eaten the beans and potatoes, but the fish was inedible. I sent it back and they took it off the menu, unapologetically. After we waited about an hour after sitting down.
The pizza was okay. $15 for a Michigan salad that just doesnât taste the same (the dressing tastes cheapened somehow⊠hardly any maple flavor), but is okay-ish, is borderline crazy. Itâs nice they have a kidâs menu now. But itâs kind of pricy for anything thatâs not just noodles. My kids shared a regular burger today, which was more cost effective, especially since they donât even have a kidâs burger on there.
The general consensus is we wonât be returning until something gets better. The food is terrible and itâs way overpriced. Iâd rather go a few extra miles and go to Garland or even drive to...
Read moreJust returned from a three night stay at this motel. Itâs old, needs serious updating overhaul. Rooms are tiny the shower curtain had significant mold on it, blanket that I wouldâve had to sleep with on bed had stains and rips on it( see pic)While sitting in the La-Z-Boy recliner, I kept getting whiffs of body odor and urine I couldnât quite make it out but definitely something I didnât wanna periodically smell!đ€ą The owner basically unloaded on me he was personally offended he started by saying, âmy wife said you were pretty uptight âLOL NOPE I was nothing but calm with the issues with the room. I was nothing but civil but this man ( Tim)is not very stable. Tim, not only are there better ways to treat a woman, but equally important, a guest staying at your place . Maybe you can get some customer service coaching. I was flabbergasted when he verbally attacked me as I was on patio with my morning coffee! didnât validate my concerns whatsoever with what should be a basic standard of cleanliness for a room. I asked to switch rooms and we got # 6 with king bed. Mold in shower wall seam, vanity old and screwed together on bottom and side , COME ON just spend the money on updating everything in these rooms! basket where our CLEAN TOWELS are put( see pic.) was disgusting. Do yourself a favor and find a place thatâs been updated AT LEAST in...
Read moreI would rate this restaurant at 3 1/2 stars as the food is good ,better than average and probably one of the best places in that town to eat. We were hungry tourists passing through and stopped around 6:30 on Saturday night when they were having a dinner rush. Most dinner meals are betwee $ 12 and $18. Dinners come with home-made rolls and maple butter and a house salad of mixed greens with dried cranberries . Both items are delicious and the house dressing - maple vinegarette is different. The Michigan salad is a good choice slightly marred by packaged pre-shredded cheddar cheese as opposed to the addition of a better quality cheese of a different type , a smoked cheese would have tasted better . I ordered the boneless pork loin which was tough and dry although the sauce was good. Plain green beans which were over- cooked and wild rice which was ordinary and bland complimented the dish. Watching the other food being delivered to nearby tables, I would guess that the prime rib special, battered cod, or pizza would have been a better choice, or maybe a burger since they are served all day. The wait staff was polite and efficient despite being so busy and the table had a pleasant view of a lake. The atmosphere was casual with a decent sounding local band playing in...
