My husband and I ate at this restaurant last night. The staff are all kind, helpful, accommodating, and genuinely there to make your evening perfect. Chris the hostess was wonderful, as well as the many servers who all willingly supported Gary, the owner, to provide the best service and culinary experience possible for his dinner guests. The menu is one of the best we have seen in the area with many international dishes, some with the labor intensive Indian nuances, and others just with downright phenomenal flavors. Although they have lots of standard fare for the UNadventurous eater, I would suggest you reach past your comfort zone and try some of the appetizers that jump out as potential winners...like the tuna tartare that with just a splash of Japanese Rice wine vinegar would be one of the best I have ever had, as well as the grilled Tandoori shrimp that is marinated in yogurt, ginger, cloves nutmeg, and dried mango; the grilled lamp chops that come with three perfectly grilled meaty garlicky chops that come with mango chutney, and the Haryali chicken Tikka- three huge plump boneless breast of chicken slices that are marinated in mint, yogurt, roasted cloves, green cardamom and star anise, and served with their famous tiger sauce and salsa. We also shared another marinated shredded beef dish special that had three beef croquette-shaped mounds that had such a umami of flavors I can't even replicate it in this review, but we thought it was just great. I would be remiss if I did not mention the creamy, silky crème brûlée that we enjoyed with a glass of Prosecco; a perfect encore to the phenomenal culinary treat we had just experienced with the appetizer medley. Sharing many apps is more fun we think, than committing to one big entree, so we suggest that you dash over to the Pittstown Inn TONIGHT, and tell them Debbie and Gene sent you....ask to meet Gary, the owner, who elegantly floats from table to table, touching each to greet them and to check later on as well to see if everything was to their liking. A true host from days gone by, this owner is the real deal whose passion for the hospitality business emulates from his constant smile from the joy he is getting from making his guests happy. You see that what fuels this man to keep opening his doors from year to year, despite the many hardships and setbacks life has dealt us all over and over, is his love for you, his loyal customer. He is a rare find, so I suggest you go and treat yourself to the real deal in dining. You will not be disappointed, and be sure to ask to meet Gary. He will make your visit complete. Kudos the phenomenal chefs I met as well, for their expertise and genuine ingenuity in designing a menu to please everyone. Can you tell we LOVE this...
Read moreMy wife and I, recently-married, skipped lunch to look at real estate in Pittstown—we're from Westchester, NY—so by dinner time we were starving. We saw The Grill at The Pittstown Inn and liked its appearance, so we decided to go inside and eat.
I ordered the Pittstown Burger, and my wife ordered the Hunterdon Burger, a turkey burger that comes with arugula and guacamole. The arugula in the burger had clearly gone bad, as had the guacamole, which was unsightly, with dark shades of green beginning to brown—the guac was disgusting.
My wife complained to our waiter, who then got the owner, Gary. He immediately assumed a defensively rude position and an intimidating demeanor; and when she complained to him about the rotting guacamole, he challenged her in a condescending manner—that is, until I showed him pictures I had taken of the arugula and guac gone bad: I will post these pictures for you all to see. He was shocked, and his defensive rudeness then turned into unjustified anger.
To be fair, Gary said our dinner would be on the house, but what happened next was offensive and a total violation of our dignity.
He angrily followed my wife to the bathroom, and then he harassed me aggressively, asking for my full name, email address, and for my phone number, perhaps to intimidate me into not writing this review. I felt threatened, so I did not disclose my personal information.
Gary was completely unapologetic about his restaurant having served an important ingredient—guacamole—in a nearly rotten condition.
My wife and I left, never to return again.
The owner is a real thug, this was the worst restaurant experience of our lives, and you better hope you aren't served...
Read moreA few nights ago we had dinner here. While mostly excellent, I ordered the ribeye steak and didn't realize until I researched it that they actually gave me an unsuited hanger steak... the other steak on the menu. I purposely ordered the ribeye because of the mention of caramelized onions and pink peppercorn sauce. I love both. Although I got the onions on the unsliced steak, I didn't really taste the peppercorns. In fact, the very dark sauce I got looked more like the sauce described on the hanger steak menu item.
The very stringy steak was tough, so I had to undercut it against the grain thinly to make it easy to eat. It was good, but something didn't seem right.
After researching how both ribeye and hanger steaks are butchered and prepared, I now am convinced that I received a mixup... a hanger steak (which is always sliced against the grain thinly) instead of a ribeye (unsliced). I got the onions (not nearly enough) as described on the menu, but I'm certain i got the sauce from the ribeye recipe.
I hope this was a mistake and not as some restaurants do (using the same beef cut sliced and unsliced) and saying they are different cuts on the menu.
I've eaten here before the current owners took over and was shocked by the very high prices. And, to justify the high price, please stop with having someone come over several times during the meal to sweep away imaginary, non-existent crmbs. Pomposity isn't part of a great dining experience especially when the decor is extremely casual.
One more thing... the desserts were fair at best... the mud pie was dry and grainy, more...
