Michael D's BBQ — Restaurant in Alford

You NEED to try this place! As foodies, my wife and I strive to find those little known, hole in the wall, mom and pop type places... This place is at the top of our charts! What they lack in space (they have inside seating available), they make up for with AMAZING food! The owners are from Tennessee and they know their Barbecue! Ever had juicy pulled pork or beef brisket? We hadn't either until we got 2 of their "ginormous loaded potato"s! I had the brisket and my wife the pork. They were indeed ginormous and while we couldn't finish them, we are saving them for dinner... With heaping portions of meat, broccoli casserole, cheese, and sour cream, these things were out of this world...and that was before we put on the bbq sauce! Speaking of which, they had several kinds of bbq sauce we could try, but I happened to choose the most popular (which I didn't kniw until after I had tried it). Curious as whether you will like something you are thinking about ordering? No problem! They will hook you up with a sample so you can make sure... Speaking of samples... If you are sweet tea drinker, their sweet tea is off the chain with great flavor and sweetness! So... This little hole-in-the-wall spot right off 231 in Alford on the way to the beach is the place to be if you're looking for true smoked meats.

My husband ordered the Michael D’s Plate — the ribs and pulled pork were fantastic, with that authentic smoky flavor you can’t fake. The green beans and baked beans were pretty average, but the coleslaw stole the show. It had chives (or something similar) that gave it a unique flavor — a little sweet, a little oniony — absolutely delicious. Don’t skip it!

I got the chicken sandwich and added the hot mustard. Pro tip: don’t skip the sauces — they’re the real stars here. The chicken was excellent, and the “tater babies” were like smaller potato logs — not bad, but nothing special.

Overall, it was a great experience and we’ll definitely be back when we’re in the area. There’s a small seating area, but it’s more of an order-and-go kind of place. Plus, Michael was great to chat with —...

OMG! We just came into town for two days and I was looking for a DG! This place popped up and we love a good barbecue so we were like " let's check it out! " OMG it is marvelous! From the wonderful staff to the delicious meal this is a place you have to check out. Even the decor is spot on. We had pulled pork and brisket, God cooked to perfection!! Also tried a couple of side dishes the coleslaw and baked beans ( wonderful gal who served us suggested them) Perfect!!! A must try. The barbecue sauce is homemade, two different. They're both top notch. And the price for everything was great! We will definitely stop on our way next time. The only disappointing thing is that we were so stuffed we got home and forgot we didn't grab any blackberry...
