Papa J's Pizzeria — Restaurant in Almira Township

Was in town for the weekend for a bachelor party. There are four pictures posted with the review because we went back twice in that single weekend.

The guys wanted pizza so we picked the closest spot and oh man did we pick a winner! We ordered a couple pizzas and went to pick them up to eat back at our cabin. When we got back and opened them up, they were still steaming, cheese was melty, crust was crispy and had a nice crunch, everything you want in a pizza! I, myself, ordered a club wrap and it blew me out of my shoes. It was loaded with flavor. The side of cole slaw was probably some of the best cole slaw I've had... and from a pizzeria!? What a surprise!

We were so impressed, we went back the next day for more! I can't speak on anyone else's order the second time around (they all enjoyed their food), but I got the cheeseburger deluxe with an extra patty. The burger was very impressive. The meat was cooked to order with thick juicy patties. Fries were okay, a little over cooked but it wouldn't stop me from coming back a third time.

There was only one person working, a younger kid... we were a large group and he handled it like a pro. He took our order, we didn't wait very long and he was bringing out all of our food. He knocked it out of the park. That quality of service deserves a raise! Definitely...

Pizza is OK. Customer service is horrible. Kids working there are great and friendly -- they are not at fault. I'm talking about the management/owners. They are so inflexible. Take, for example, the Family Special they offer. You get two pizzas: one HAS to be a deluxe, and the other can have up to two toppings. We wanted just a cheese pizza for the kids and asked if we could take one of the items from the kids two-topping pizza and have it put on the deluxe pizza. "No" was the answer. Same size pizza, costs them NOTHING extra to be accommodating, keep customer happy... and I've spoken directly with the manager to try and see if they'd budge, but she wouldn't. Plus, it's hardly a "deal" money-wise. The other thing that just absolutely grosses me out is the floor in the restaurant. They spent some money remodeling the front counter... but ignored how incredibly gross the floor is. Makes you wonder how clean the rest of the place is. MY RECOMMENDATION: order from Stone Oven in Lake Ann, or Long Lake Grocery on the north end of Long Lake (both are very friendly and accommodating, and the latter really takes care of local elementary schools -- plus, they're far...

They should be a 4/5 but I owe it to them. We live close. Long short you can't go wrong. I have ordered from them for as long as they have been in business. Two nights ago I ordered some fried chicken and they hit me hard with fees on dark meat I did not know where there. The driver even said he was shocked at the price. Long/Short, we were stuffed but I had to call and question the "up charge" and the manager on site offered me an amicable solution plus gave me his manager's number off site. Because of all this and because of the past experiences with them I owe them this review. I will always order from Papas. Fried Chicken is fantastic.
