Defamation of someone’s character is wrong and has been addressed by both God and Man’s law.
James 4:11, "Speak no evil one of another, brethren, he that speaks evil of his brother and judges his brother speaks evil of the law and judges the law, but if you judge the law you are not a doer of the law but a judge. There is one lawgiver that can save and to destroy. Who are you that judges another?" James is talking about the sin of defaming others. The legal definition of defamation is: the act of making untrue statements about another which damage his/her reputation. If the defamatory statement is printed or broadcast over the media it is libel and, if only oral, it is slander. Most states provide for a demand for a printed retraction of defamation and only allow a lawsuit if there is no such admission of error.
The ninth Commandment given to Moses by God is: “You will not give false witness against your neighbor”
Several key things. Defamation of character has to do with publishing, that is proclaiming something. Secondly, proclaiming something that is false and thirdly, proclaiming something that is false with a malicious intent. That's defamation of character. In our country, in our society, it's against the law. It's against the civil law and you are subject to a civil lawsuit if indeed you defame someone's character. Even our blighted and benighted society realizes that a person's reputation is his or her most valued asset. It must be protected. Society recognizes that your reputation is your stock and trade.
Knowing the nature of people, I personally do not rely upon yelp or other such tools in researching whether to trust a company. Just because it is written someplace certainly does not make it true. How do we know that the company itself has not embellished its own reputation by having friends or others make false statements on its behalf? Of course if there a hundred reviews you might find some truth somewhere in there. Secondly, how do we know that a negative statement about the company is not simply a miscommunication, or a wrong perception about the company based on nothing more than a misunderstanding by subjective experience? It might have been just an honest mistake, like perhaps transposing a telephone number that was the root of the whole problem, perhaps they did try to contact the customer, but the email bounced. one negative comment and hundreds of people see it, the damage could be geometrically terrible, especially for a company new to the internet.
When it comes to making judgements that could lead to harming another person’s livelihood, their family and that will intentionally mislead others it is best to keep our opinions to ourselves it best to take the moral high ground. We might share such complaints with close friends and relatives. They know us, so if we tend to overreact, they at least can weigh that knowledge about us, along with the information we gave them. It is never justified to publicly attack someone when we know to do so will...
Read moreKaraoke DJ seems more interested in getting her drunk on. She doesn't have a rotation list of singers and there's no rhyme or reason of who's singing nor when. She also has her "favorites". Some drunk strange guy named Brian seems to sing an inordinate amount of time. People working at the bar get preferential treatment to sing? A couple showed up at the end of the night and sang half of the last handful of songs. Three of us were there for 3 hours yet only sang one time. This is a consistent problem with Karaoke here unless she's not there her substitute female is fair and very good. Very annoying and disappointing. No shade thrown on service food or drinks always good. But the drunk DJ and her cronies gotta go or change her ways... or we won't waste our time with the Bowtie for karaoke. Very sad and...
Read moreI've visited this establishment several times in the last couple months. Seems to be a repeat almost every time and leads me to search for a different place to frequent. Although the wait staff are very friendly, food is good and prices are fair, it doesn't cover for the owner herself being intoxicated and rude to customers every evening. Smoking inside the bar, causing a scene with her friends and upsetting even the frequent patrons. Each time I've seen her screaming at customers out of the blue, kicking them out for no reason other than the fact that she herself is intoxicated. Tonight was the last straw when her behavior exceeded all the other nights. I wish the Bow Tie well, because the staff are nice people. The owner needs to get herself in...
