As much as the people here were friendly, the food was a rip-off. I ordered the french toast. The menu says it is “4 thick slices”. It was two very thin slices of bread, each cut in two for $10, so closer to $12 with tax and tip.
I ordered this for my partner and I. But as the portion was coming over I felt my heart sink. It looked far too small, absolutely even if I had ordered it all for myself. This didn't seem right.
So I unwillingly brought this up to the waitress. She was nice, and she told me she'd speak with the owner.
Never heard back. So I paid and we got ready to leave.
On the way out my partner wanted to tell them that we'd been there many other times and had good experiences, but that this was a big let down. We were quite excited that morning for some good food.
Only then did they offer to do something about it, but, my partner felt like this was offered somewhat begrudgingly. And, you know, the time for making the customer whole is when they aren't on their way out the door and have somewhere else to go. That is, when they really can't accept the offer.
In any case, I love French toast and I've had it all over the US and even in Peru. Big slices, right folks? Well this was by far the smallest portion I’ve ever seen of french toast. Think two slices that are a bit bigger than Wonderbread.
Summary? If you feel like paying $10 for two slices of bread dipped in a bit of egg, come on over, I guess?

Updated review from above review 2 years ago. We stopped by on our way through again this week. We've actually been by a few times but they are rarely open. They are currently open Fridays, Sundays and Mondays. Regardless it's a good idea to call to verify hours. The food was again outstanding. Service was friendly and patient with all of our questions. It's fun to browse their unique items for sale. This would have been a solid 5-star experience except for one big deal. The bakery items they display are very appealing but I thought they looked a bit dry. We were there on Friday so I thought they have to be fresh since they were closed all week. I was hugely wrong. The items must have been left over from the previous week if not longer. They were so bad we couldn't eat anything we had bought for the road and threw it out. A huge waste of money. They were so bad that I don't think I would ever buy their baked goods again without assurance of when they were made and perhaps even after...
Read moreWe were staying in Reserve NM for a few days of rockhounding with our rock club from AZ. We took the pleasant drive from our lodging to enjoy a great breakfast here before a day of agate hunting. The baked goods looked fantastic. The staff were super cordial and welcoming. As in many tiny towns, this seems to be the local meeting place, and as each person came in, we were greeted with a friendly hello. The food selections were surprisingly sophisticated for such a small, rural location. I thoroughly enjoyed a Garden Frittata loaded with veggies and served with a side of veggies and homemade wheat toast that was fantastic. My husband opted for an Elk Burger breakfast with eggs over easy that he said were perfect, and it was topped of with a magnificent biscuit with butter and honey. We highly recommend this place if you're ever in this neck of the woods. I'm seriously regretting not getting a cookie or cinnamon roll or two....
