Texas Bar & Grill — Restaurant in Amarillo

Found this restaurant by looking for a hamburger restaurant. The name sounds like a place where you can get a burger, and maybe a steak or some chicken tenders, but the reality is that although they do serve a really good, inexpensive,old fashioned burger here, this restaurant is, at its heart, a very authentic mexican restaurant. The menu includes menudo, chile relleno, pozole, gorditas, and other authentic dishes. My El Salvadorian father-in-law had the menudo and loved it. I just had a double cheeseburger because that's what I was craving when I walked in the door, and it was delicious, as were the crinkle cut fries that I got with it. Next time I'm in Amarillo, I will definitely go back. The only things that prevented a full 5 stars were that it smelled a little like cigarettes inside, and the parking...

We stopped here on our way to CO. I’ll admit I was skeptical walking up to the place but the food here is delicious! Super authentic Mexican cooking that’s made to order. I had the chile relleno with cheese and the batter was so delicate and light-it actually allowed me to taste the chile…soooo good. Salsa has just the right kick and my bf’s red chile enchiladas were so tasty. Margaritas were bomb too. They played country music and the atmosphere was nice and chill. Went to eat menudo, they only serve on weekends even though signs outside advertise it. They claim to be a “bar” but only serve beer, AND, cannot make a michelada to save their lives! (What kind of a Mexican food joint doesn’t know how to at least kind of make one??!!). Food was sub par, and their was an obnoxious group that came in and let their kids run around like hoodlums and the restaurant owners were more concerned about losing their business. Well, ours...
