I ordered the Heifer Ribeye, medium rare. What I got was a grey, medium-to-well steak that tasted sour, almost like it had been freezer-burned and sitting for months. It was inedible. I managed two bites before pushing it away. For a $40 steak, this was absolutely disgraceful. No $40 cut should ever be frozen, let alone served in this condition.
The loaded baked potato was drenched in what looked and tasted like canned stadium nacho cheese, topped with an absurd ice-cream-scoop-sized blob of sour cream. The house salad was barely that, just iceberg lettuce and what I can only assume was shredded government cheddar. Nothing fresh, nothing appealing.
We waited over 30 minutes for the food to arrive, and this was with the restaurant only half full. Our server took 15 minutes just to come take our order, and the rest of the time she spent standing in the back chatting with coworkers. Inattentive is putting it lightly. To her credit, she did take the spoiled steak off our bill without me having to ask, probably because even she knew how bad it was.
The place was moderately clean, but felt run down. Between the low-quality food, the lazy service, and the sky-high prices, I truly can’t understand how this place is still in business.
I wouldn’t go back even if the meal was free. Honestly, Applebee’s would’ve been a major upgrade, and that says a lot.
If you’re thinking about going to Timbers, don’t. The food is overpriced, low quality, and in my case, borderline spoiled. They either need to shut down or be bought out by someone who actually knows what a steakhouse should be.
Response
Thanks for taking the time to respond. I respect that you’ve been in business for 26 years, but that doesn’t change the experience I had during my visit.
I understand you claim the Ribeye was “graded choice” and never frozen, but what I was served told a very different story. It came out gray, tasted off, and was nowhere near the quality or temperature I ordered. I’ve eaten enough steaks in my life to know when something’s not right. Whether it was freezer burn or poor storage, the result was the same: it was barely edible.
I also stand by my comments on the sides. The baked potato smothered in canned nacho cheese and the salad of plain iceberg and shredded cheddar simply don’t live up to the price point or the promise of a “steakhouse.” For $40+, I expected something far better than what I received, both in food and service.
As for the server, I’m glad to hear you’ll be addressing that. I had no interaction with a manager, so I wasn’t aware you personally removed the item from the bill, though the waitress said she would without me asking, but it was appreciated regardless.
I don’t take pleasure in writing negative reviews, but my visit didn’t reflect the quality or care that should be expected at those prices. I hope this feedback helps future guests get a better...
Read moreMost of the meal was edible, but not good by any standard. My husband ordered the 10 oz. Sirloin, I ordered the 6 oz. The waitress returned to our table to tell us that they were out of the 10 oz. I asked if they could just give him two 6 oz. steaks instead. I never would've thought that would be a problem, seems like a valid compromise. Nope. The waitress returned and told us that they could do two of the 6 oz steaks but that we would be charged full price for both of them because of the extra 2 ounces. 2 OUNCES! The menu says there is a soup and salad bar with the meal I had ordered. Because of Covid, they can't have the salad bar. The "salad" that was served was lettuce with shredded cheese and a slice of tomato and a slice of cucumber. Our steaks and loaded baked potatoes came. The potatoes were left in the aluminum foil which made it very difficult to eat. I can't remember ever having a potato served to me in the foil. The "salad" was alright, nothing special about lettuce and cheese. The steak was very tender, but they did something to it take made it a pretty gross. Like it was cooked in a rusty pan on a tire fire. I honestly don't know how to describe it other than not good. I'm not sure what they did to the potato to make it taste bad. The cheese sauce was definitely a contributing factor. It tasted like some discount nacho cheese sauce, bland, no flavor, and just a little bit off. I didn't realize until we had left the restaurant, but neither of us received a roll as noted on the menu (picture uploaded). I'm not sure why we ordered dessert, but we did. My husband ordered a slice of cheesecake. What a joke! The small cheesecakes at Wal-Mart have larger slices than the tiny thing they served him. I ordered the Dutch apple pie, which they didn't have. So I ordered the "cinnamon apple bowl". The description on the menu is "A large scoop of cinnamon ice cream, hot apples, caramel sauce and whipped cream in an edible bowl". That isn't even close to what I was given. The ice cream was vanilla. The apples were scooped directly out of a can, not warmed whatsoever. Along with that, the apples tasted as if they had expired last year and still had the skins on them which made them even more unappetizing. No caramel sauce, no whipped cream and the "edible bowl" was HARDLY edible. I had to spit it out! It tasted like I was eating a diaper. I've been to this restaurant once before for a company dinner and wasn't impressed. But this time the food was absolutely horrendous. Do not waste your money! My suggestion would be that they need to limit their menu and make sure they have the ingredients needed to make what is...
Read moreMy brother, my wife, and I visited Timbers this past Sunday while I was in Indiana, and unfortunately, our experience left much to be desired. As an avid meat eater, smoker, cook, and hunter, I have a keen sense for meat quality, and the ribeye my brother ordered was clearly spoiled. It looked anemic, and a bite confirmed my fears: it had a distinct sour, decaying taste, making it unsafe to eat. Given the price, I suspect it had been sitting for far too long.
My own meal wasn't much better. The mushroom appetizer was decent, but the mozzarella sticks, clearly not house-made, were merged together, resulting in a soggy, unappetizing middle. The salad was basic and palatable, though the tomato wedge felt lazy, and I would have preferred one from any fast-food chain.
My loaded baked potato was topped with an unappetizing processed cheese and the potato itself was unseasoned and chewy near the peel, suggesting it was pre-baked and reheated, likely in a microwave. I took one large bite and left the rest.
I ordered the New York strip rare, and while it was cooked as requested and had a promising appearance (unlike my brother's), it lacked seasoning. I believe it was fresher due to higher demand, but the disturbing taste of my brother's ribeye had already put me off, and I couldn't bring myself to finish it entirely. My wife's salmon, though fine and bland, was also left unfinished due to the overall experience.
The atmosphere didn't feel like a steakhouse; it was more akin to an over-decorated Ponderosa without a clear theme. Customer service was equally disappointing. Our waitress was curt and rushed, rarely checking on us despite not appearing busy. Her abrupt "one more" when my wife ordered sides was particularly unprofessional.
While the ribeye was removed from our bill, there was no apology or explanation from management, only the waitress. This lack of accountability, coupled with the management's seemingly dismissive response to my brother's separate review, was particularly concerning. Their response suggested they neither tasted the uneaten steak nor understood when meat is on its way to rancid, firmly confirming our decision. We frequently travel through Angola, but I will never be returning to Timbers under its...
