I was quite disappointed this time around. As it was my return visit. The ambiance is Wonderful, the upbeat yet serene feel is just perfect! Great place to wind down if day feels a bit hectic. The coffees and specialty lemonades quite refreshing! It is a bit pricey, so don't think your gonna get champagne atmosphere on a tight budget! I was quite disappointed in the food though, this is my reason for my rating a 3 star review. I was quite excited to bring my out of town guest here, I thought it would be a super special place, being that the area is riddled with either Mexican foods or fast food chains with lousy service. When I first came to Savie Cafe, the atmosphere was like it is now... Exciting, quite and a bit different paced, not your ordinary cafe. But when they first opened, the menu was limited however food was unique and hand made, again exciting as it was NOT the ordinary sandwich... The menu has expanded since my first visit, excited to read all the choices. I was extremely pleased to see the same foh/boh bubbly attendant who knows the entire menu inside and out and is not afraid to share some new choices or to suggest the variety of different beverage. The restaurant is impeccably clean. I was not impressed with the $5 dessert choices that are not made in house. As a professional baker, and a former restaurant owner I was not impressed what so ever with the choice to sell food service desserts...especially when your establishment is a unique coffee shop. The Italian lemon creme cake (item that I chose to purchase along with scones and muffins was not made fresh by Savie...(I found this out after I made the commitment to purchase them) Although it is nice to see the desserts in refrigerated case, in my opinion, it brought this unique cafe down a few levels, lower than the three star review. It made me now question whether the rest of my order was food service quality for the price I was about to spend. The lady behind the counter graciously answered my question regarding the scones, muffins and slices of cake. With reluctancy she said no Savie does not make these treats....I was shocked to hear this even though I knew the answer before she said it, I was HOPING I was wrong. Sorry to say, that small item stripped the excitement away from the whole experience of specialty cafe. I was HOPING that this place was not like Starbucks, but I was wrong. When are breakfast sandwiches arrived at the table, I was completely disappointed! Server was super pleasant, I was embarrassed as my guest looked down at her serving as I did mine to see our sandwiches served on a black foam plate wrapped in tin foil! The presentation was just awful. As I spent close $45. Which normally doesn't phase me, but again I came here as a return customer from my first experience, and this experience was no different than going to Motel 6 breakfast. My guest shook her head and reluctantly ate her over heated (she could barely lift the sandwich as it was so hot the waffle was soggy) waffle sandwich with grace not to upset me even more. My croissant sandwich was in better shape than the waffle sandwich but was heated up the same way and presented in foil and a Styrofoam black plate. Shorting the customer of the presentation portion of the food failed the entire overall experience of returning and stripped the excitement of something different. I hope the writing of my review resonates to the owner of this establishment that if your passion is to have an establishment different from the ordinary then follow through to the end, as the last impression is far more important than the walk in as it was the very last thing us customers will remember. I most likely will not recommend to anyone I know, because I feel I was deceived from the beginning..I would compare this cafe as a knock off to Starbucks... drinks and specialty foods manufactured by other companies for an inflated cost... Honestly I don't see how you make any kind of money with three customers in the store... Overhead cost outweighs...
Read moreI've driven by this little cafe a lot of times on trips to TN from Huntsville but never had a good chance to stop by and give them a try. I had some hours to kill between shifts and wanted a quiet place to do some schoolwork, so I made the choice to drive on over and settle in.
This spot has a small gravel parking lot and also a drive through. The inside is cozy but more spacious than I expected -- it was nice! There are lots of small local vendors featured for sale on the shelves and countertops, which gave it a nice community-minded vibe. I was also pleasantly surprised by the relative depth of their menu -- good choices for breakfast or lunch!
I was worried a latte would upset my tummy when I got back to work (lactose intolerant gang unite), so I instead chose to order a "Lavish Lemonade," which came with my choice of a few different fruity flavors. I opted for raspberry. I also got a bacon, egg, and cheese bagel for a small meal. Both the girl taking orders and the girl who brought my food out were super pleasant.
Everything came out quickly despite the fact that there had been multiple guests in line! The other folks around seemed to know the staff and menu well; I love a place with regulars! Helps me know they're doing something right. :)
My bagel sandwich was simple but nice and hot and quite satisfying. The lemonade was SO good -- good enough it'll be hard to order a coffee next time I come back!
Unfortunately for me, I took my laptop out only to realize it was on 3%. D'OH. So I had to chow down on my food and then rush home to grab a charger so I could actually work. Oh well. Very much my fault, not theirs, and I'm still very happy to have discovered this place! Looking forward to visiting again...
Read moreI noticed this place a few weeks ago while driving down Hwy 53. I decided to try it out today and was really impressed! It’s gorgeous inside! Lovely atmosphere with wood/stone. The service was awesome from the person who took our order; made my latte; brought out my food. 10/10 for atmosphere and service. The food gets 10/10 also! I got an iced white chocolate delight, blueberry muffin and a turkey hummus sandwich. It was all delicious. I’d definitely be back for coffee and a muffin! I’d highly recommend this place. There’s not a lot of options in the Harvest/Toney/Ardmore area for bakery items and coffee. Let’s please support them and buy local. I read they had a drive thru, but I wasn’t exactly sure where it was. If I had to give a recommendation, I’d ask that they have clearer signage on where the drive thru is. I think it would increase business for people to stop on their way into/from town. Overall, a really great place.
Update: I came back a few days later and the drive thru is clearly marked. 🙂 Excellent service and food the second time around. Will...
