Gaskin Cabins Steakhouse!!
We had all but abandoned hope for good food in Eureka Springs but Gaskin Cabins Steakhouse made it all better...
My wife and I booked this weeklong trip to Eureka Springs to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary. We live just north of Dallas, where high end good food is common so we made reservations at several high end restaurants in Eureka Springs, figuring we would celebrate all week with great food. This has not been the case. We have paid a couple of $150 dinner tabs in Eureka so far and each time left disappointed. I was starting to think that this town was against using seasonings, herbs and spices of any kind. Maybe there was a really high salt tax?? I mean it's not like we use a lot of salt in our food (actually quite the opposite), but it definitely has it's place and on red meat, it is a must. We were so gun shy at this point that we actually asked the server if the chef puts any salt or seasonings on their steaks before cooking them. Our server looked at us a little funny but confirmed that yes, the steaks are seasoned before they go on the grill. Ok, well give it a try...
Atmosphere is a 10! Cozy, quaint, romantic and yet unpretentious. Our server Savannah was amazing and spot on for service but what really shines is the food. I had a Kentucky mule and wife had an Aviator for mixed drinks. Both were perfectly mixed. They bring out two small loaves of house bread which was hot and delicious. Things were starting to look up. We shared some fried shrimp with house made coctail sauce that is the best I have ever had ( I can't believe I just said that about coctail sauce, but seriously, it was good). The soup is a house recipe that I was told the chef has been using for 30 years, and reminds me of something you might get in a high end cafe in Paris. Mushroom soup with a bold bordeaux backdrop. Simply delicious, as everyone else says. My filet, medium rare, was perfectly cooked, flavorful and tender (you know, like a filet is supposed to be). I saved a small bite to take home and eat in the morning. The true measure of a good filet in my book can be found the next day, cold, right out of the fridge. My wife's filet, medum well was also perfectly cooked for her preference, flavorful, and tender :-). We finished off by splitting a vanilla bean creme brulle which, like everything else was perfectly done.
Bravo, Gaskin Cabins Steakhouse!! Well done! Thank you for a wonderful meal and a...
Read moreI went here on a Friday night and at first felt the wait was a bit long. Until I tasted the food. All the complaints about wait time are from those who do not understand that the level of perfection that is produced from this kitchen takes time, concentration, culinary genius, and an amazing touch of miracle to create such amazing food. I first entered and the atmosphere was amazing. The lights, decorations, seating, and music all made it feel like a high class restaurant. I had the mushroom soup which paired magnificently with the bread and created such deep rich flavors that felt like I had eaten a whole meal by the time it was gone. Then my rare ribeye came. It was seared to perfection and left with such an amazing texture, flavor, and presence that made me nearly cry. The way it was just so tender that my knife sliced through it like a semi through a golf cart even while it was done rare was amazing. The char on the outside or tested deep withing the meat for an amazing smokey flavor throughout it. The fat just melted in my mouth and softened it for the arrival of more and more bites of steak. After I had eaten all I almost made the worst mistake of my life, I almost left without desert. Everyone knows the most difficult thing to do is follow an amazing performance that's why the small bands go before the main one on stage. But somehow in this small dish in front of me, was an entire key lime pie squashed down into the size of a cup holder. Each bite was filled with such intensity it felt like I was eating a whole slice of key lime pie sending me flashbacks of grandma's lemon ice box pie she would make everyone. By the time I got done with it I almost had tears in my eyes. And it felt like I had eaten two whole key lime pies. I'm a working man and I've been fortunate enough to work hard and be able to eat at places like Ruth's Chris and Texas de Brazil. But this place, was a heavenly experience that I had never felt before. From someone who isn't that passionate about food and hardly eats out. This was the best meal I had ever eaten in my life. It's worth the wait, be mature and be patient and you'll receive the most amazing food you ever had. Amazing things come to those who wait, and heaven is gracious enough to come to those who wait at...
Read moreEdit 9-7-2022: we would give this restaurant a ZERO if Google would allow it. The blonde hostess was a complete snot. We got there 15 minutes early and she acted like they were so busy that they couldn’t seat us. She acted put off that we even showed up there. We had the burgundy mushroom soup and it was all good except that they brought us one dirty spoon that still had food on it. So far the whole experience was marginal and then came the entrees. We ordered Prime Rib, as usual, medium rare. The prime rib came out well done. We pointed it out. They brought us two more that were extremely well done. I asked for the manager and our waiter had the nerve to tell us it was the lighting…..the prime rib was gray, tough to cut, and chewy. Then he actually brought me a menu and told me I should find something else to eat. We told them we were done. They brought us a check, for them getting our orders wrong twice….seems logical and then asked us to exit through the side door as if we would tell other people that the place has gone way down hill. There was nobody there! It was after 7 pm. Where has your business gone? We tipped the inattentive waiter $20 anyways and paid $52 for soup and two drinks and had to go find another place to eat because these people couldn’t care less about ours or anybodys business. It showed, there were two other couples in this place besides us. We are now at Grotto spending our money and it is packed! Avoid Gaskins, it isn’t even close to the restaurant it used to be! We actually made reservations for both nights we are in Eureka and they seemed shocked when we told them to cancel for tomorrow. Totally ridiculous experience. We drove hours to come here to eat and couldn’t have been more disappointed.
Go anywhere in the world and you will be hard pressed to find prime rib that compares to theirs! Excellent service on numerous occasions. Don’t skip this restaurant when visiting...
