Boar's Nest Bar & Grill — Restaurant in Athens

Man, I want to love this place.

The food is decent and the atmosphere is great, but ordering food to go is ALWAYS flawed. I don't know where the problems are, but it never ends.

One time I order food and I'm missing an entire meal. One time I get the wrong food, another time I'm missing parts to my meal. There's always something missing or wrong. This last time I ordered a thick crust pizza and got a thin, maybe she misheard me, that's understandable, but I added onions for $1.56 (!!) And the pizza didn't even have them. The prices are all different from the menu AND they charge more for using a credit card AND they charge for to-go containers. Stuff like that is overhead, it's a cost of business.

The menu doesn't have a lot of detail and I hate taking the girls time by asking over the phone "what's on the boar Burger pizza? What's on the boar's nest special pizza?"

As much as I hate being nickle and dimed and my bill winds up being $10 more than expected because of all up charges, the food isn't even right !

I'm not a complainer, and what we got was decent enough, and the staff are great.

The boar bites are delicious, but things like being charged $9 for a handful of fried mushrooms and like $16 for an order of wings just starts to add up when you add charges and...

I have gotten several items from here over several weeks and here is my overall experience.

Fried mushrooms - they are FANTASTIC. They are fresh lightly breaded and seasoned. Not over battered like a lot of places. You can really taste the difference. Great vegetarian option.

Boneless 2lb wings - they are really good and so different than other places in the best way. They are basically really nicely cut up thick chicken breasts lightly battered and tossed in sauce. Not processed meat or overly battered and the sauce is great. I got medium buffalo.

The buffalo chicken horse shoe is fantastic too. If you know what a shoe is it’s great. I also had the horse shoe with the pulled pork and Cole slaw it’s a specially shoe (can’t remember the name of it) that one isn’t for everyone it’s a different to say the least but ok as for and a specialty shoe. I’ve been to several restaurants in the area for shoes (Dublin pub, Corner pub Charlie Parker’s and a few others) so I can accurately say the shoes at Boars Nest are above average. The cheese is VERY good and they put it separate for take out so it doesn’t make your horseshoe soggy which is very considerate.

Overall I would recommend The Boars Nest to anyone who asked. Food is great....

Third time we have gone here, first two times were good. This time we ordered the thin crust pizza with ham and pineapple. The server told us the thin crust was cracker thin, which is what we wanted. When it came out it looked quite thick. We asked her and she said yes it was thick. that she entered the wrong button. She did ask if we wanted another made, but it was getting late and we wanted to eat and get home. So, we ate some, it had lots of cheese. but no ham and just a few pieces of pineapple, plus the sauce tasted weird. We neither one liked it much. Plus we got charged the higher thick crust price. We both had upset stomachs later that night so I think there was something off in the sauce. we brought home 3/4 but after the upset tummies I threw the leftover out. Disappointing since the first 2 times our meals were really good. Will try again but...
