Hilltop Bar & Grill — Restaurant in Au Sable Township

Labor day Saturday. Group of 14 :). We called ahead. Were told " come on down, we can accommodate you ". So we did :)

Upon arrival. We thought. How come we didn't even know this was here. We've been coming 20+ years to the Tawas / Oscoda area.

They sat us at three close tables. Which was perfect. Semi close to the stage. A couple TVs to enjoy the game.

The atmosphere is nice. People talking laughing and quaint. I wouldn't call it a Dive bar like another reviewer stated. That's a tad unjust. It's clean and has that backwoods community bar feel.

Ordering food. I love good appetizers. So we went with the hand cut beer battered mushrooms and crab raggoons.

Nice portions !!. I had to throw down to get a crab raggoon. They liked them that much 😂. The breaded mushrooms are very large. Very hot and pretty darn good. Some can be a tad over breaded. But to get a fresh mushroom at a restaurant these days. I did thoroughly enjoy them and there are plenty to go around. The deep fried green beans are also very good :)

At our table. One ordered the fish and chips and the rest ordered the Saturday prime rib special. We received our dinners and they were all cooked exactly like we had asked :). Right on !!

I loved the garlic mashed potatoes. No salt or butter needed. The steamed veggies were also very good.

The fish was crisp and hot and the coleslaw my daughter said was " the good stuff ".

At the other tables. They enjoyed the wings, Ruben was a big hit and again primed rib.

The prime rib is very tasty. Above Luke warm when served. But prime is a cut of meat that has a special handling when roasted. So temps are always consistent to this. Everyone enjoyed the prime rib very much ! Prime rib when roasted has an outer rim or " crust ". This area can be unpleasant at times if not seasoned well and seared, it can become a tad rubbery. Simply trim it off and your perfect. :). It's less then a 1/4 inch if that along the top side :)

The gentleman doing the live performance was entertaining and everyone enjoyed it :)

Servers: The servers are spectacular. We had Jamie H for two of our tables and her sister for the third. What works here is everyone. From the hostess to the wait staff all assist each other. No one just waits on there table. They all pitch in. And it makes for a smooth quick service. Well done. Jamie H was fun and we enjoyed her as our waitress :)

Upon leaving we had a small bill issue. It was promptly taken care of by her. Super professional all the way around. We WILL be back. Shoot over and give...

My husband and I went in at 2:30 pm to get some food (they were not super busy.) We were sat immediately by a hostess and handed menus and told the waitress would be with us soon. 10 minutes goes by and 2 additional tables sat down. The waitress goes to the first table, hugs the man that came in with his kids, takes their drink orders. She then goes to the second table, hugs the lady that was there with her family, takes their drink orders. Another 5 minutes goes by, she brings the drinks to the guys and asks them if they are ready to order food. My husband and I hadn't even had our drink orders taken yet and we'd been there about 20 minutes at that point, ignored by everyone. I know she knew we were there because I saw another waitress point to us, and she still went back to those other tables first. I guess if you don't personally know the waitresses you get bad service.
