I've driven past Shore many times and never pulled the trigger to stop by until now. Having heard mixed reviews, I thought I'd give it a shot to see what they were all about. I set up a reservation on line for patio seating and that we were celebrating a birthday and arrived on time. I was quietly and reluctantly welcomed upon my arrival and escorted outdoors to my table and sat down. The place was buzzing with patrons and the atmosphere was lively. While the patio is located between two buildings, the dispersion of sound and the chatter of other tables didn't pose an issue and a quiet conversation was possible. We ordered our drinks after being given an ice water and waited 17 minutes for them to arrive. She had a prosecco and I an old fashioned. We then ordered 6 oysters as an appetizer and waited an additional 14 minutes for them to arrive. The pace of the waiter warranted ordering another beverage whenever we saw him merely to ensure that we had a drink. Our waters were never refilled for the duration. At one point, while waiting for the oysters, we had to flag down a young lady and ask for bread that we saw other tables enjoying. We were never offered any. She was gladly receptive and returned quickly with a basket. 38 minutes after being seated, we ordered our entrees. She ordered a salad and I had the halibut. I will say the food was amazing and I highly recommend the halibut. The garlic rice and cream sauce were excellent compliments to the fish. The salad was garnished with the same bread given to us in the basket but was disguised as croutons. Yet, it had a tougher texture as if it were of an older vintage. I'm a fan of reducing cost but not at the expense of patron's taste buds. Overall, the atmosphere was nice and the food was excellent. The service needs attention and a sense of urgency needs to be instilled as to not create a displeasing experience for customers. Time management should also be addressed or bringing on a couple more servers during the dinner rush would be advised. Finally, I see no need in asking if there is any celebration when booking a reservation on line if that celebration isn't even acknowledged by the staff. We were celebrating a birthday but indicating that fact is a moot point as it fell to the wayside in the end. As to the young lady who brought us bread, she was the recipient of our charitable donations because we watched her hustle the entire time we were there and went out of her way to enlighten...
Read moreI'm so torn because the food was amazing, but we had probably the worst service I've ever had at a restaurant. Hubs and I got a sitter (we have 4 kids), a rare treat, and drove ALL THE WAY from Liberty Hill to Shore last night because we heard it was amazing (50 minute drive). Our reservation was at 730, and we were promptly seated. The atmosphere was quite nice, noisy but nice. Our server and her trainee arrived fairly quickly, and when we told her it was our first time at Shore, she gladly proclaimed she would be "guiding us through our experience" that evening. Unfortunately, we didn't see her again for over an hour. I ordered a cocktail and hubs ordered a dr. pepper. A bartender brought me the cocktail and our server's trainee brought hubs his soda, about 15 minutes after he ordered it. It was so long, I had forgotten about it. We had to wait to order for over 20 minutes. It was at least 8 pm before we ordered and we were so hungry. Our server didn't even take our order, her trainee did. We enjoyed the guacamole... it was amazing, and it came out in a timely manner. Hubs and I ordered the shrimp tacos and the ribeye tacos. They didn't come out until about 8:40pm and when they did, they weren't hot, indicating that they'd been sitting for a while. After we got our food, our server finally showed up to check on us (over an hour after we first met her). My cocktail had run out prior to receiving our food and no one asked if I wanted a refill (I did), so I never got another. Hubs and I really wanted to order dessert, but since we had to drive 50 minutes to get home, we were afraid to order as we weren't sure how long it would take, so at 8:50, we ordered the Tres Leches to go and asked for our check. We didn't get out of the restaurant for another 25 minutes, around 9:15 pm. All of the food was spot on. Delicious. The flavors were amazing, and we were very impressed with everything we ate. That's why I'm giving the restaurant 3 stars. The service was HORRIBLE. It's so frustrating to finally get a night away, and have to deal with such terrible service. Not a single restaurant employee (except Roger the trainee) came and checked on us at anytime in the hour + that we were waiting for our food. Because of the poor service, I wouldn't make the drive to Shore again. I really hope that they can up their staffing to meet their needs at busy times, because our server was clearly stretched too thin. It was a...
Read moreGreat place and we will no doubt be back. We have driven past many times but never gave it a second thought until finally one day we looked up the menu and knew we just had to try.
Right off the 71 and plenty of parking so very easy to access. There is a large raw bar you can sit at and a regular bar. And there is plenty of indoor and outdoor traditional seating.
Shortly after being seated, we were greeted and told about the specials as well as our drink orders taken. This was my first time try 512 Brewery and have to say that it's now one of my favorites! We started off with salads; we ordered the Caesar and Blue Cheese Wedge and both were amazing.
We are big fans of "peel & eat" shrimp, so whenever we find a place that's serving it... we have to try. They advertise their shrimp as "Gulf" shrimp and I have to say, since moving to Austin, we have had some fresh Gulf shrimp and it is some of the freshest shrimp ever! While this was good shrimp, it wasn't as good as some we have had from sellers who bring it fresh from the gulf waters. They also use very large shrimp; the size you would expect for a shrimp cocktail but not for peel & eat shrimp. Whenever I have had peel & eat shrimp at any other place, they usually serve a pound of 16/20 or maybe 11/15 size shrimp. I'm not sure this was a pound as it doesn't state on the menu and we didn't ask but again, these are shrimp you would traditional get in a jumbo shrimp cocktail. It came with an unusual cocktail sauce. The sauce did have a nice spiciness to it, but there was some other flavor that we didn't really like. We ate it, but it would have been nice if it was just traditional cocktail sauce with a side of horseradish. They cook the shrimp in Old Bay seasoning which is amazing! Very few places use Old Bay but happily they do. And the shrimp definitely could have been chilled more. The shrimp meat wasn't as firm as you would expect; sometimes when places boil the shrimp, they don't spend enough time letting it cool down to firm up the meat.
We will have to come back someday to try some of their fish dishes. They have monitors on the wall and seem to show quite a bit of sports, so no doubt this would be a great place for football when the season starts back up soon. But if you are seafood lover, you will certainly...
