Changing my loyal 5 star review to 1 star.
tl;dr Our waiter either forgot or deleted our guest's main entree, then denied it having been ordered when asked (despite reminding him that we even agreed to the $4 upcharge, remember?). Regardless, he never apologized or anything. They also forgot to bring dessert despite having been charged for it. This isn't a particularly cheap restaurant either, we used to appreciate its quality. Even the dishes he did bring out had mistakes. The staff doesn't know their own specials. Service is remarkably slow, their menu has become a minefield of availability (sezuan chicken lollipop-- on the menu, not available for the past four visits). They were also out of fish last night, I wasn't told this until well after my order had been placed. Evidently the staff doesn't know their own inventory. Overall an exceptionally poor dining experience for us and our guests.
Full Review: My wife and I have been coming here for several months, often brining friends to dine with us. We were bona fide Spice Club evangelists. Over our past several visits however the quality, service, and availability have notably declined. Our visit last night was downright embarrassing.
We came in to dine with family and a friend, neither of whom had ever been before. The server began taking our orders, but seemed fully unaware of the Wednesday special (Wednesday Wonder), which is advertised on Spice Club's social media-- something we've gotten many times before. We had to get out a picture of the advertisement to explain. Ordering was particularly difficult on account of the language barrier, which is fine to a certain degree, but I also had trouble understanding, and our server never slowed down to enunciate when the issue became evident. Regardless, we all completed our orders and started waiting for the food to come out. Service was excruciatingly slow, but we finally got our dishes-- with the exception of one. Our waiter never stopped by to ask if everything was alright, otherwise we would have been curious to ask about the lamb dish which my wife's brother ordered. Eventually it became clear after we had finished eating all of our food that we would have to go up and ask. My wife went up and spoke with our waiter, asking how long until the lamb dish would be out-- to which the waiter denied him having ordered it. Let's pause a moment. If a guest in the party has not ordered any food, it's safe to assume that's an error on your end, but you didn't notice that? My wife reminded him what we all remembered-- that the lamb dish was a $4 upcharge, and that we had agreed to it, remember? The waiter was dismissive and denied it. Moreover, he never apologized for the mistake. Exceptionally poor handling of the situation.
Lastly, they forgot our dessert which comes with the special. Am I to be led to believe that the guests should be responsible for educating the staff on their own promotions? We have never given 0% tip but this should have been our exception. What a shame. This used to be our diamond in the rough. I wouldn't recommend it anymore and we certainly won't...
Read moreThis place has gone downhill. The service our last few visits has been horrible. The food is still good, but they have been out of multiple items the last few times, and have not had the chicken lollipops in months. This last visit was the nail in the coffin: slow service, forgotten items, and no apologies. Service was SO SLOW with only 6 other parties in the restaurant. It took our party of four 45 mins just to get our appetizers, and after about 30 mins they came out to tell us they didn’t have one of the appetizers in stock. When they brought out our meal they forgot one of our guests entree and naans. I couldn’t catch anyone’s eye so I went to the counter and the server told me we didn’t order it. I told him we did and reminded him that he had informed us lamb was $4 extra, so I know we ordered it. He said yes, he told us that, and then that we didn’t order it. Absolutely nothing we did indicated that we didn’t want to order the curry and 2 naans that we told him we wanted! Why would he think that one person at our table just didn’t want anything to eat, especially after they had placed an order? He didn’t apologize or offer to fix the issue in any way, and we returned to the table to share food with our party member who had nothing to eat. We also never got the dessert that was supposed to come with our Wednesday Wonder, but by that point I was so over our experience I didn’t mention it. We...
Read moreThis unassuming restaurant holds big secrets. Its proximity to the attached gas station leads you to assume your expectations should be lowered....prepare to be wrong. From the moment we walked in the door, we were warmly greeted and sat immediately. The decor is modern industrial. Very clean. Very well kept. Music was playing setting an appropriate ambiance for the dining experience we were about to embark on. Our waiter was kind and patient. He walked us through the menu, explained what we were ordering and what it contained, and offered suggestions for pairings like the addition of rice and bread (which i would always suggest ordering) Our appetizer came out very quickly and was absolutely delicious. We ordered the Indian street food. Very light and full of flavors. Our meals came out shortly after and were of an equally high caliber. Hot, spiced how we request (mild.... because we are old and its late in the day....need i say more?) It was truly some of the best Indian food we have had, especially in Hendricks County! If you are a fan of authentic Indian cuisine, you will NOT be disappointed making Spice Club a...
