DO NOT EAT HERE IF YOU HAVE ANY ALLERGIES!! Our son had an allergic reaction and was rushed to the hospital. We asked for a dish without nuts or sesame, and they assured us they could do that. Apparently, they were sloppy in the kitchen and were not sanitary about avoiding cross contamination with other foods. He had a severe allergic reaction and was rushed to the hospital by ambulance (from home - it was a takeout order). But what's even worse is how the restaurant responded. They claimed it was not their fault, and refused to admit they could have possibly been responsible. They did not ask how he was. They did not even comp our meal. They accused us of lying and trying to scam them out of a free meal!!
We have been to many, many asian restaurants that are very careful about allergies. PF Changs (many locations) and Lotus Garden in Vienna are excellent about this and we have never had a problem. We are very careful in all Asian restaurants because we know they use a lot of nut and sesame. So we always tell them to prepare his dish separately. Crystal Thai assured us they would do so carefully. But they did not.
That is a sign of a sloppy kitchen. So even if you do not have allergies, who knows what's in their food that gets in there accidentally. They apparently are not cleaning their utensils and pans or letting random ingredients get into dishes accidentally.
What's even more offensive was their attitude. They refused to believe it could have been their fault, even though the reaction was immediate upon eating the food (it was takeout, so we called them from home). They assumed we were lying and trying to con them out of a free meal. How offensive and cheap. We have the hospital bill to prove it - we went the ER by ambulance. They told us to send the ER bill to their lawyer as proof and hung up on us.
If you have allergies you should definitely STAY AWAY. Even if you do not have any allergies, you may still wish to avoid this restaurant too, if only because of their sloppy kitchen and...
Read moreMy family and I just had our New Years Eve dinner here and it saddens me to write this review. I have been coming to this restaurant for more than 30 years. I have brought friends and work colleagues throughout those years and in the 90’s and early 2000’s , the food was amazing , dinning room and facilities were immaculate and staff were welcoming and friendly. Tragically, as owners and menu changed, the days where the service staff, proudly wore their Thai attire, are LONG GONE and the plates that came out of the kitchen were works of art! I have noticed the decline over the past several years but still kept my loyalty to the place. This last meal was my final. Although we were a table of nine and were ordering everything on the menu and were all in a jovial mood to bring in the the new year, the atmosphere weee SAD. The two ladies that served our table couldn’t have cared less. The service was offensive and we should have walked out during the meal. The waitresses were walking up to the table and standing there with the food and expected us to manage the plates and serve. The bottle of alcohol were dropped off the table and it was our duty to serve the wine. The food that was delivered was mediocre, barely warm and it so lacked in the quality equal to the prices. Awful, awful, awful. We moved out of the neighborhood 20+ years ago but I continued to make the 30 minute drive, although we have several other Thai options 5 minutes away. This review closes our chapter on what once used to be a fine and authentic Thai restaurant and what has turned into an OVER PRICED Thai...
Read moreI have visited Crystal Thai on severl occassions. About me:
I have travelled all over the country..no really... Here is my honest opinion on most Baltimore area restaurants, they should just be called slow food. Why?
They can't really be fast food because fast food here still takes you between 10-15 minutes.
As for service: Don't call it a dine in experience. There is no experience. It's just food.
I'll try to be fair though. Crystal Thai
Food: Food is okay, much better than the other thai restaurant on the OM area. It's not as good as a lot of the other states I have visited but this is food you woul like to eat. One thing about it though, anything friend is over fried. And the rice, I think they have found a way to use the cheapest quality. I love rice. I grew up with rice and I have experimented with different kinds of rice. This is by far one of the worst I have tasted. So yeah, don't order rice either.
Service: If you want to go to sleep while waiting for everything, a sloppily dressed waiter who stares at you if you want to spend a bit more time for you to order, or looks at you as if you are crazy if you want to order dessert. This is the place to go for that.
Price: Overpriced but food is more decent than it's competitors.
When to go there: When you are hungry and want decent human food and its lunch time when there are actually some servers doing their jobs.
When not to go there: When you are craving something fried or something with rice or are looking to have a dining experience.
I suggest to drive to Philly...
