Either Dairy Queen has gotten a lot more expensive in the past couple years where I haven't been able to visit, or this location is just excessive in price gouging. We had food in the car and weren't even incredibly hungry, but were about to part way with friends after a long weekend camping in Mojave, so we figured it would be nice to grab some greasy food and ice-cream to celebrate an active weekend and say our goodbyes. As we were ordering I noticed that the prices were no where near what I was used to, but I was hoping that the combo prices would mitigate a bit of the ice cream cost. In the end I was shocked to be spending $35 to get a burger, chicken basket and single medium blizzard from Dairy Queen... The A1 burger I got was pretty good, though was definitely dry if I am going to start comparing it to $12 restaurant burgers as the price suggests I should. The chicken strips were pretty small, but the portion of fries was good and we did enjoy those. The blizzard hit the spot as always, so no complaints on that end, except for the fact that it cost $10 which could grab me a couple gallons of ice cream at the grocery store. I will certainly never be stopping by this location in Baker again, and will have trouble justifying a visit to any other DQ for a while. Just know if you are desperate to stop here in the middle of nowhere, you will pay for it! But if you can stand to wait, I would definitely...
Read moreI just learned that Dairy Queen closed all their branches in Singapore, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macau. What a pity!
Nothing can be better than an ice cream after driving several hours through the desert in triple-digit heat at 3 p.m.
Baker is a town in the middle of nowhere, on the trip from LA to Las Vegas. The town only has several gas stations and some fast food. I drove into a Shell station to fill up my tank, and there was a giant chair between the Dairy Queen and the gas station shop.
I put the gas pump nozzle into the tank, then walked into Dairy Queen and ordered a Mint Oreo Blizzard. I waited for a while. There were only two staff members in the restaurant, with only one preparing food, and there was another customer in front of me. The room had a strange odor.
I got my Blizzard after the staff flipped the cup. Back in the 1990s, when I first encountered Dairy Queen in Shanghai, I was really impressed by this flipping idea.
I sat beside the giant chair eating my Blizzard. Suddenly, a group of senior Chinese people appeared. They all walked into the gas station shop. What had happened? I saw them walk out through the shop's side door and then realized there were two toilets behind the giant chair, with a tourist bus parked nearby.
The Blizzard was way too sweet and lacked the cool refreshing touch that mint should provide. I guess I won't have Dairy Queen again in the...
Read moreUnfortunately, we must agree with so many other reviewers that this place should not be your first choice for buying anything while waiting to charge your vehicle. The prices are out of this world and for the most part, double what you would pay back home. Unlike airport prices due to high concession costs inside an airport, there is no excuses here for both of the fast food restaurants located in the same complex except to price gouge their customers. It is sad just how bad it is here. I agree with another reviewer to walk down or stop in at the Taco Bell before buying anything here. Better yet, bring a cooler with food and drinks and you will not need to use any of their services. I guess if enough people complain or stop using these locations, maybe the owners will take the hint, but for as long as we have been travelling this interstate, do not hold your breath. No need for response by owner to give us a standard “boiler plate” response. This will be the same response we will leave for Jersey Mike’s Subs and Dairy Queen Grill. Both locations have restrooms and plenty of free parking in front of the buildings. Dairy Queen does have plenty of indoor seating and there is additional covered seating with tables out in front. Finally, there are numerous Tesla Supercharger stations and regular Shell gas pumps with diesel pumps located within the...
