China House — Restaurant in Baltimore

Swing thru west Baltimore in the rain and let the gloom of the trenches settle in. It'll likely make you hungry, for more than just food, but bust a u turn on Frederick Ave and park in front of China House. Walk into the minimalistic space and feel like you're a thousand miles away. There's pictures of the food lining two of the walls, pick whatever looks good to you, the sesame chicken with fried rice is a sweet fire. Get a couple spring rolls. It'll be much cheaper than it looks and tastes. Cheaper than it should be, imo. It'll take a few minutes, go kick it outside. Hear some kids saying mean things to police officers, get a good laugh. Asked for a general tso she ask what size I say small and proceed to pay 9.83. As I’m waiting and they hand me my food i see in the other window they have a small menu with “lunch special”. It’s 12:20pm so I ask her how much is the lunch special for what I got she says “7.83” 😑I ask her what’s the difference in what I just ordered and the lunch special seeing as tho I didn’t get my soda. China House quality for take-out is VERY GOOD. I tried an egg roll, steak egg roll, sesame chicken combo (fried rice) and pork fried dumplings. The stars were the egg rolls and Sesame chicken(some of the best I've ever had. Despite being dunked in good sauce, it was still crispy at home. The steak and egg roll were great....plump crispy and the steak had great flavor. Pass on the dumplings - long and waxy. I prefer the plump type with one side very well fried. If you visit China House, certainly get egg rolls and any fried chicken...
